Symptomatic and functional recovery after transurethral resection of bladder tumor: Data from ecological momentary symptom assessment
CONCLUSION: In this population, hematuria and negative effects on quality of life resulting from transurethral resection of bladder tumors were generally mild and short-lived, although a small number of patients experienced longer recoveries.PMID:38369443 | DOI:10.1016/j.urolonc.2023.12.007 (Source: Urologic Oncology)

Annual mpMRI surveillance: PI-RADS upgrading and increasing trend correlated with patients who harbor clinically significant disease
CONCLUSION: In conclusion, this study demonstrates that for men on AS with stable recapitulated disease, an annual MRI may replace repeat biopsies after confirmatory sampling has been obtained. On the other hand, men who initiate AS with PI-RADS 4 and/or who display uptrending mpMRI scores require periodic biopsies along with repeat imaging. This study highlights the utility of integrating an annual MRI into AS protocols, thus promising a more effective approach to management.PMID:38365461 | DOI:10.1016/j.urolonc.2024.01.005 (Source: Urologic Oncology)

Primary retroperitoneal lymph node dissection for clinical stage II seminoma: A systematic review and meta-analysis of safety and oncological effectiveness
Urol Oncol. 2024 Feb 14:S1078-1439(24)00014-0. doi: 10.1016/j.urolonc.2024.01.014. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTo evaluate the oncological outcomes and safety of primary retroperitoneal lymph node dissection (RPLND) in patients with clinical stage (CS) II seminomatous testicular germ cell tumor (TGCT). A literature search using PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane Library was conducted on July 2023 to identify relevant studies according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines. The pooled recurrence rate and treatment-related complications were calculated using a random effects...

Prognostic significance of pT3a staging subclassifications in renal cell carcinoma: Not all pT3a are equal
CONCLUSION: We examined the prognostic role of pT3a staging subclassifications in RCC by histologic subtype and observed survival differences, particularly in papillary RCC. Our findings highlight the need to refine pT3a staging criteria to help guide individualized, multimodal treatment strategies for locally advanced RCC.PMID:38355353 | DOI:10.1016/j.urolonc.2024.01.031 (Source: Urologic Oncology)

Reducing the demand for magnetic resonance imaging scans and prostate biopsies during the early detection of clinically significant prostate cancer: Applying the Barcelona risk-stratified pathway in Catalonia
CONCLUSION: The application of the BCN-RSP would reduce the demand for mpMRI scans and prostate biopsies by one fifth while less than 5% of csCaP would remain undetected. The overdetection of insignificant CaP would decrease by more than one quarter and the performance of prostate biopsy for csCaP detection would increase to higher than 40%.PMID:38342654 | DOI:10.1016/j.urolonc.2023.09.020 (Source: Urologic Oncology)

Unraveling the BMI paradox in different renal cortical tumors: insights from the INMARC registry
CONCLUSION: Our findings refute a broad "obesity paradox" for RCC. Obesity was not associated with improved survival in non-ccRCC and in nonmetastatic ccRCC, while metastatic ccRCC patients with obesity had improved survival outcomes.PMID:38341362 | DOI:10.1016/j.urolonc.2023.11.015 (Source: Urologic Oncology)

Pathology focused review of morphologic subtypes and molecular variants of urothelial carcinoma with an emphasis on clinical/treatment relevance
Urol Oncol. 2024 Feb 9:S1078-1439(24)00017-6. doi: 10.1016/j.urolonc.2024.01.016. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTUrothelial carcinoma (UC) has significant morbidity, mortality, and remains the most financially costly carcinoma to manage and treat. This review will cover special morphologic features of UC that may be noted by the pathologist and any subsequent significance in terms of clinical management or treatment considerations as mentioned or recommended in the latest WHO 2022 classification of GU tumors. Many important potentially therapy altering morphologic findings can be consistently identified and reported on rout...

Regional differences in upper tract urothelial carcinoma patients across the United States
CONCLUSIONS: Inter-regional differences were recorded in patients, tumor, and treatment characteristics. Even after adjustment for these characteristics, OM differences persisted which may be indicative of regional differences in quality of care or expertise in UTUC management.PMID:38336499 | DOI:10.1016/j.urolonc.2024.01.034 (Source: Urologic Oncology)
