Variation in management of lymph node positive prostate cancer after radical prostatectomy within a statewide quality improvement consortium
CONCLUSIONS: The majority pN+ patients receive treatment within 12 months post-RP which was associated with high-risk pathological features and post-RP PSA. Variation in management of pN+ disease highlights the uncertainty regarding the optimal management. Understanding which patients will benefit from secondary treatment, and which type, will be critical to minimize variation in care.PMID:38570271 | DOI:10.1016/j.urolonc.2024.03.015 (Source: Urologic Oncology)

Predictors of persistent opioid use in bladder cancer patients undergoing radical cystectomy: A SEER-Medicare analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Non-opioid naïve patients have higher rates of post-operative opioid prescription than opioid-naïve patients. Physician prescribing practices play a role in persistent use, as initial prescription amount predicts persistent use even in non-opioid naïve patients. Significant physician variation in both prescribing practices and rates of persistent use suggest a role for standardizing practices.PMID:38565428 | DOI:10.1016/j.urolonc.2024.03.010 (Source: Urologic Oncology)

Prediction of histopathologic grades of bladder cancer with radiomics based on MRI: Comparison with traditional MRI
CONCLUSION: The bp-MRI radiomics model may help distinguish high-grade and low-grade BCa and outperforming the traditional MRI model. Multicenter validation is needed to acquire high-level evidence for its clinical application.PMID:38556403 | DOI:10.1016/j.urolonc.2024.02.008 (Source: Urologic Oncology)

The treatment landscape of nonmetastatic castrate resistant prostate cancer: A contemporary perspective
CONCLUSIONS: Thus, nmCRPC is an uncommon disease. Further population-based studies are required to better understand the incidence of nmCRPC.PMID:38555235 | DOI:10.1016/j.urolonc.2024.03.005 (Source: Urologic Oncology)

Evaluation of URO17 ® to improve non-invasive detection of bladder cancer
CONCLUSION: Limitations include cross-sectional design and convenience sampling. URO17 may improve sensitivity of urine cytology in the detection of urothelial cancer, though further study is required to refine the application of this biomarker in clinical practice.PMID:38553264 | DOI:10.1016/j.urolonc.2024.02.012 (Source: Urologic Oncology)

Testing the external validity of the POUT III trial (adjuvant platnium-based chemotherapy in upper tract urothelial carcinoma) in a North American cohort
CONCLUSIONS: While the primary disease stage was similar, the rate of advanced nodal disease was significantly higher in NCDB, which might be explained partially by the more extensive lymph node dissection performed in the latter. These differences warrant caution when applying the POUT III findings to North American patients.PMID:38522975 | DOI:10.1016/j.urolonc.2024.01.035 (Source: Urologic Oncology)

Nomogram for personalized prognostic assessment of children with favorable histology Wilms tumor: A retrospective analysis
CONCLUSION: This study provides valuable insights into the clinical characteristics and outcomes of FHWT patients. Accurate staging and histological risk assessment are important in predicting outcomes, and the prognostic nomogram we developed can be a useful tool for clinicians to assess patient prognosis and make informed treatment decisions.PMID:38522976 | DOI:10.1016/j.urolonc.2023.12.009 (Source: Urologic Oncology)
