The relationship between BCG immunotherapy and oxidative stress parameters in patients with nonmuscle invasive bladder cancer
CONCLUSION: The findings suggest that the carcinogenesis of NMIBC is associated with oxidative damage of biomolecules and indicates the involvement of oxidative stress markers in the development and recurrence of NMIBC.; Therefore, it is critical to ensure the management for T1 high grade and tumor size of >2.5 cm for antioxidant protection.PMID:37932135 | DOI:10.1016/j.urolonc.2023.09.008 (Source: Urologic Oncology)

A retrospective cohort study of the impact of peripheral blood gamma- delta T cells to prognosis of nonmetastatic renal cell cancer after curative resection
CONCLUSION: A low proportion of γδT cells was identified as one of the risk factors for RFS. Our findings will provide clues to develop strategies for early intervention in preventing recurrence even after complete resection of RCC and, such as adoptive immunotherapy using autologous γδT cells in patients with a low proportion of γδT cells.PMID:37919100 | DOI:10.1016/j.urolonc.2023.10.001 (Source: Urologic Oncology)

Extracellular vesicle biomarkers for prostate cancer diagnosis: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Urol Oncol. 2023 Oct 30:S1078-1439(23)00295-8. doi: 10.1016/j.urolonc.2023.08.019. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTExtracellular vesicle (EV) biomarkers have promising diagnostic and screening capabilities for several cancers, and growing evidence indicates that EV biomarkers can be used as diagnostic markers for prostate cancer (CaP). However, data on the diagnostic accuracy of EV biomarkers for CaP diagnosis are conflicting. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis, aimed to summarize the diagnostic performance of EV biomarkers for CaP. We systematically searched PubMed, Medline, and Web of Science from inception...

Primary squamous cell carcinoma of the scrotum: Outcomes from a specialist center
CONCLUSION: Scrotal SCC is extremely rare in the UK with only 10 primary cases identified in our center over the past 10 years. Surgical resection of the tumor and appropriate inguinal node staging are required due to a high proportion of cases which metastasize to the inguinal lymph nodes.PATIENT SUMMARY: Scrotal cancer is rare. 10 cases were diagnosed over 10 years at a single center. Around half had disease spread to the groin nodes or distant organs at presentation. Surgical resection was required in all patients. At the time of analysis, half of the patients are alive. Due to the rarity and aggressiveness of the cance...

Effectiveness of perioperative chemotherapy and radical cystectomy in treating bladder cancer
CONCLUSIONS: We report real-world outcomes from a large cohort of muscle-invasive bladder cancer patients undergoing surgical treatment with/out perioperative chemotherapy. Pathologic response rates to pre-surgical chemotherapy were modest and led to clinical benefit only in cT2 patients. Adjuvant chemotherapy provided survival benefit for pathologically advanced MIBC patients irrespective of pT/N staging.PMID:37880002 | DOI:10.1016/j.urolonc.2023.09.017 (Source: Urologic Oncology)

Development of a novel score (RENSAFE) to determine probability of acute kidney injury and renal functional decline post surgery: A multicenter analysis
CONCLUSION: RENSAFE models utilizing perioperative variables that can predict AKI and CKD may help guide shared decision making. Impact of postsurgical AKI was limited to less severe CKD (eGFR<60 ml/min 71.73m2). Confirmatory studies are requisite.PMID:37880003 | DOI:10.1016/j.urolonc.2023.09.015 (Source: Urologic Oncology)
