Evaluation of Breast Cancer Tumor-Infiltrating Lymphocytes on Ultrasound Images Based on a Novel Multi-Cascade Residual U-Shaped Network
Breast cancer has become the leading cancer of the 21st century. Tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) have emerged as effective biomarkers for predicting treatment response and prognosis in breast cancer. The work described here was aimed at designing a novel deep learning network to assess the levels of TILs in breast ultrasound images. (Source: Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology)

Successful In Situ Targeting of Pancreatic Tumors in a Novel Orthotopic Porcine Model Using Histotripsy
New therapeutic strategies and paradigms are direly needed to treat pancreatic cancer. The absence of a suitable pre-clinical animal model of pancreatic cancer is a major limitation to biomedical device and therapeutic development. Traditionally, pigs have proven to be ideal models, especially in the context of designing human-sized instruments, perfecting surgical techniques and optimizing clinical procedures for use in humans. However, pig studies have typically focused on healthy tissue assessments and are limited to general safety evaluations because of the inability to effectively model human tumors. Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasound –Assessed Supraspinatus Muscle Perfusion Indicates Better Tissue Vitality and Outcome After Supraspinatus Tendon Repair and Subacromial Decompression
Supraspinatus tendon (SSP) tears are a frequent indication for shoulder surgery. Therapy options include physiotherapy, tendon repair and less invasive surgical options like subacromial decompression (SAD). The selection of the most appropriate treatment depends on the specific characteristics and needs of each patient subgroup. Typically, physically active patients are candidates for tendon repair, while a conservative approach is preferred for individuals with severe muscle degeneration or low physical demands. Assessing the Effect of Augmented Reality on Procedural Outcomes During Ultrasound-Guided Vascular Access
Augmented reality devices are increasingly accepted in health care, though most applications involve education and pre-operative planning. A novel augmented reality ultrasound application, HoloUS, was developed for the Microsoft HoloLens 2 to project real-time ultrasound images directly into the user's field of view. In this work, we assessed the effect of using HoloUS on vascular access procedural outcomes. (Source: Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology)

Flow Dynamics in Children With Bicuspid Aortic Valve: A Blood Speckle Tracking Study
Bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) is associated with progressive aortic dilation. Although the etiology is complex, altered flow dynamics is thought to play an important role. Blood speckle tracking (BST) allows for visualization and quantification of complex flow, which could be useful in identifying patients at risk of root dilation and could aid in surgical planning. The aims of this study were to assess and quantify flow in the aortic root and left ventricle using BST in children with bicuspid aortic valves. (Source: Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology)

Ultrasonic Sound Speed Estimation for Liver Fat Quantification: A Review by the AIUM-RSNA QIBA Pulse-Echo Quantitative Ultrasound Initiative
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a significant cause of diffuse liver disease, morbidity and mortality worldwide. Early and accurate diagnosis of NALFD is critical to identify patients at risk of disease progression. Liver biopsy is the current gold standard for diagnosis and prognosis. However, a non-invasive diagnostic tool is desired because of the high cost and risk of complications of tissue sampling. Medical ultrasound is a safe, inexpensive and widely available imaging tool for diagnosing NAFLD. (Source: Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology)
