[Aripiprazole induced non-cardiogenic pulmonary edema: a case report].
Abstract Aripiprazole is a second-generation antipsychotic drug with partial dopamine agonistic activity. Although the adverse cardiovascular effects of both typical and atypical antipsychotics are well known, similar data on aripiprazole, which was recently introduced, are scarce. Herein we report a 35-year-old female that presented to our emergency department with non-cardiogenic pulmonary edema. Chest X-ray and thoracic CT showed pulmonary edema and bilateral pleural effusion. Anamnesis showed that she had been taking sertraline 200 mg d-1 for obsessive-compulsive disorder for a long time and that aripiprazole1...

Abstract A significant proportion of patients with schizophrenia receiving clozapine remain with partial response. In this group of patients findings regarding addition of various psychotropics to ongoing clozapine treatment for augmentation are controversial. In this review, literature regarding the efficacy and safety of adjunctive agents in clozapine resistant schizophrenic patients is examined. Augmentation agents added to clozapine in treatment resistant schizophrenic patients consist of antipsychotics, antidepressants, mood stabilizers, other agents (eg. omega 3 fatty acids and glutamatergic agents) and elec...

[Mania with Psychotic Feature Induced by the use of Pramipexole in Parkinson's Disease: A Case Report].
, Celik S Abstract Parkinson's disease, a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by movement abnormalities, is frequently complicated by psychiatric syndromes. Psychiatric symptoms may be the direct result of PD, its co-morbid pathologies, or occur as a side effect of its pharmacotherapy. Pramipexole, like other dopamine agonists for treating Parkinson's disease , has a tendency to induce psychotic and manic symptoms due to central dopaminergic stimulation. In this article, mania with psychotic feature induced by the use of dopamine agonists which is not observed frequently in the literature will be discussed. ...

[Creativity and bipolar disorder].
üz S, Oral T Abstract The relationship between creativity and bipolar disorder has been an intriguing topic since ancient times. Early studies focused on describing characteristics of creative people. From the last quarter of the twentieth century, researchers began to focus on the relationship between mood disorders and creativity. Initially, the studies were based on biographical texts and the obtained results indicated a relationship between these two concepts. The limitations of the retrospective studies led the researchers to develop systematic investigations into this area. The systematic studies that h...

[Mania associated with quetiapine treatment].
In this study, a case of schizophrenia in which manic symptoms developed after increasing the dosage of quetiapine to 300mg/day, and subsequently disappeared after cessation of treatment is presented. Although the blockage of 5HT2 receptors and the disinhibition of frontal dopamine secretion seemed to be the reasons for the development of the mania/hypomania related to atypical antipsychotics, the mechanism is not clear. During the use of atypical antipsychotics, clinicians should be cautious to patients' mood fluctuations. PMID: 24590852 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Turkish Journal of Psychiatry)

This report discusses the case of a six-year-old, sexually abused boy who, when admitted to the hospital at the age of 10, claimed to have been repeatedly sexually harassed by several different people. His family's frequent changes in hospitals, negative perceptions of and accusations against medical staff, and improper methods of responding to harassment led clinicians to a diagnosis of Munchausen by proxy syndrome. In addition, both parents believed the abuse story, suggesting a potential diagnosis of shared psychotic disorder. In the literature, Munchausen by proxy has rarely been reported with symptoms of sexual abuse....
