ICU management of the obstetric patient
Publication date: Available online 15 February 2020Source: Trends in Anaesthesia and Critical CareAuthor(s): Sima Patel, Andrea Estevez, Nicholas Nedeff, Jose Gascon, Ilde LeeAbstractAcross the United States (U.S.), very few centers exist with an intensive care unit (ICU) solely dedicated to obstetrics (OB) and gynecology (GYN) patients. The management of obstetric patients, who are admitted to a general intensive care unit, can often be accompanied by a fair share of apprehension owing to the intricacy of care. Rather than discussing common obstetric emergencies and their management, we would like to call attention to bas...

Evaluation of intubation and intensive care use of the new Ambu® aScope™ 4 broncho and Ambu® aView™ compared to a customary flexible endoscope a multicentre prospective, non-interventional study
ConclusionPossible reasons for the higher acceptability of and preference for the aScope 4 Broncho are the manoeuvrability of the scope and the optimised visualisation during tracheal intubation or of the bronchial system. Because of these benefits, any encountered risks may be reduced in patients undergoing bronchoscopic procedures, including in critically ill and presurgical/medical patients.Clinicaltrials.govNCT03294213. Airtraq® vs. fibreoptic intubation in patients with an unstable cervical spine fracture: A neurophysiological study
ConclusionTracheal intubation with an Airtraq® appears to be a viable alternative to fibreoptic intubation in patients with a traumatic cervical spine fracture and immobilized by a moulded cervical collar. Time necessary to secure an airway in these patients is significantly shorter with the Airtraq®. (Source: Trends in Anaesthesia and Critical Care)
