Impact of Korea Network for Organ Sharing Expanded Donor Criteria on Delayed Graft Fuction in Kidney Transplantation: A single-center experience
The shortage of donor organs has been a major challenge in transplantation. In an effort to reduce the donor shortage, kidney transplantation (KT) using expanded criteria donors (ECD) was encouraged. In Korea, transplantation centers used the Korea Network for Organ Sharing (KONOS) ECD criteria, which is different from the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) criteria. The aim of this study is to evaluate the predictive power of KONOS criteria on delayed graft function (DGF) in comparison to UNOS criteria. (Source: Transplantation Proceedings)

Niacin pretreatment attenuates lung ischemia and reperfusion-induced pulmonary barrier function impairment by reducing oxidative stress and activating SIRT1 in an isolated-perfused rat lung model
In this study, we examine the pulmonary barrier function via capillary filtration coefficient (Kfc) following lung I/R injury with and without niacin treatment. (Source: Transplantation Proceedings)

The effect of selective antibiotic pressure on the MLS-B phenotype in methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus strains originating from patients from transplantation wards – 24 years of observations
Staphylococcus aureus infection, and HA-MRSA in particular, is a serious risk for patients treated with organ transplantation. The frequent combined resistance of these bacteria to macrolides, lincosamides and streptogramin-B (MLS-B) limits the use of these drugs in therapy. (Source: Transplantation Proceedings)

Resilience as a moderator of extreme stress adaptation – living kidney donor analysis
The aim of the study was to check if a situation of extreme and traumatizing stress, such as living kidney donation, will result in changes in the quality of the donor ’s life: whether a posttraumatic growth should occur, and if the donor develops a strategy to handle strong and uncommon stress, known as resilience. The study was conducted on 23 living kidney donors aged 25 to 63, who were examined 3 days before the donation and 6 months after. The study was cond ucted using the following tools: self-prepared questionnaires for donors before and after donations and validated questionnaires PTGI-R, PRE and SPP25. (Source: ...

Effects of Subnormothermic Perfusion Before Transplantation for Liver Grafts from Donation After Cardiac Death: A Simplified Dripping Perfusion Method in Pigs
Liver transplantation from donors after cardiac death (DCD) provides a solution to the donor shortage. However, DCD liver grafts are associated with a high incidence of primary graft nonfunction. We investigated the effectiveness of subnormothermic porcine liver perfusion, before transplantation from DCD, on graft viability. (Source: Transplantation Proceedings)

Endotoxin Metabolism Reflects Hepatic Functional Reserve in End-Stage Liver Disease
The hepatic clearance of endotoxin (Et) may reflect hepatic functional reserve and ischemic injury to hepatocytes. Therefore, we examined the relationships between Et activity (EA) and the metrics Pediatric End-Stage Liver Disease (PELD)/Model of End-Stage Liver Disease (MELD) score and alanine transaminase (ALT) levels in the postoperative period. Diagnostic Usefulness of APRI and FIB-4 for the Prediction of Liver Fibrosis After Liver Transplantation in Patients Infected with Hepatitis  C Virus
Aspartate transaminase –to–platelet ratio index (APRI) and fibrosis-4 (FIB-4) are well known as representative indirect serum biomarkers related to liver fibrosis. The usefulness of these markers for the diagnosis of liver fibrosis after liver transplantation (LT) in hepatitis C virus (HCV)–infected patients and the influence of splenectomy were investigated. Transplantation Opportunities of Hepatitis C Virus –Seropositive Patients on the Kidney Waiting List
Besides severe organ shortage, hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is an important obstacle for kidney transplantation because of long waiting times on deceased kidney donor waiting lists. We aimed to evaluate calling number of candidates according to HCV serology. (Source: Transplantation Proceedings)

Development of a Screening Tool to Predict Chronic Kidney Disease Risk in Post-nephrectomy Living Kidney Donors
Few studies have examined the long-term risks of kidney removal to donors despite the increase of frequency in kidney transplantation. This is the 1st study to develop prediction models of chronic kidney disease (CKD) for the 1-year period after donor nephrectomy in living donors. A prospective cohort of patients who underwent donor nephrectomy from March 1, 2006, to December 31, 2016, at the Severance Hospital, Seoul, South Korea, was used. CKD was defined as a glomerular filtration rate (GFR)   (Source: Transplantation Proceedings)

Comparison of Recipient Outcomes After Kidney Transplantation: In-House Versus Imported Deceased Donors
Increased cold ischemia time in cadaveric kidney transplants has been associated with a high rate of delayed graft function (DGF), and even with graft survival. Kidney transplantation using in-house donors reduces cold preservation time. The purpose of this study was to compare the clinical outcomes after transplantation in house and externally. Related factors of osteosarcopenia in kidney transplant recipients
Sarcopenia and osteopenia are highly prevalent in older subjects, and are associated with a high risk for falls, fractures, and further functional decline. However, related factors in kidney transplant recipients suffering from osteosarcopenia, the combination of sarcopenia and osteopenia, remain unknown. (Source: Transplantation Proceedings)
