Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis after solid organ transplantation: A challenge for clinicians
Transpl Immunol. 2024 Feb 1;83:102007. doi: 10.1016/j.trim.2024.102007. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is a rare inflammatory disorder with a high mortality rate and a wide range of symptoms. Solid organ transplantation, which provides patients with a unique immunosuppressive state, is a less common predisposing factor for HLH. HLH after solid organ transplantation (HLH-SOT) is very rare and fatal. It is hard to diagnose and treat and extremely understudied. The use of immunosuppressants makes the situation of HLH-SOT more complex. This review summarizes the existing literature on HL...

Efficacy and Safety in Early application of Ruxolinitib for high-risk: Acute lymphoblastic leukemia to prevent GVHD and recurrence after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation
CONCLUSIONS: Our preliminary observations suggest that an early application of ruxolitinib can safely and effectively prevent the occurrence of GVHD after allo-HSCT for the high-risk ALL patients. However, ruxolitinib may have a limited effect on preventing the ALL recurrence of high-risk patients.PMID:38302005 | DOI:10.1016/j.trim.2023.101978 (Source: Transplant Immunology)

Nephrotic proteinuria and hematuria with newly diagnosed IgA nephropathy after liver transplant: A case report
CONCLUSION: We reported a liver recipient, who was taking sirolimus, developing nephrotic proteinuria and hematuria with IgA nephropathy. Further studies need to be carried out to disclose mechanism behind this phenomenon.PMID:38272322 | DOI:10.1016/j.trim.2024.102003 (Source: Transplant Immunology)

Exploration of the shared gene signatures and biological mechanisms between ischemia-reperfusion injury and antibody-mediated rejection in renal transplantation
CONCLUSION: Inflammation is a key mechanism that links IRI and ABMR, with a potential role played by CD4 memory T cells. Furthermore, TNFAIP3, IRF1, and EGR2 are implicated in the underlying mechanism between IRI and ABMR.PMID:38266883 | DOI:10.1016/j.trim.2024.102001 (Source: Transplant Immunology)

Probiotics, gut microbiome, and cardiovascular diseases: An update
Transpl Immunol. 2024 Jan 21;83:102000. doi: 10.1016/j.trim.2024.102000. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCardiovascular diseases (CVD) are one of the most challenging diseases and many factors have been demonstrated to affect their pathogenesis. One of the major factors that affect CVDs, especially atherosclerosis, is the gut microbiota (GM). Genetics play a key role in linking CVDs with GM, in addition to some environmental factors which can be either beneficial or harmful. The interplay between GM and CVDs is complex due to the numerous mechanisms through which microbial components and their metabolites can influence CVDs....

Renal transplantation for infantile and juvenile cystinosis: Two case report and review of the literature
This report discusses the outcomes of two young adult patients of Middle Eastern descent with cystinosis who underwent KT. The first patient, diagnosed with infantile nephropathic cystinosis treated by cystine-depleting therapy, was operated by KT at the age of 18. The second patient, diagnosed with juvenile cystinosis, underwent transplantation at the age of 35 after being treated with hemodialysis. Our report describes detailed pre- and postoperative managements, including laboratory results, and pharmacological interventions. Both cases highlighted the varying clinical manifestations and disease severity between infanti...

Upregulation of IDO gene expression reduces the immunogenicity of epidermal cells and strengthens the immune protection of epidermal cells during transplantation treatment of wounds
CONCLUSION: Our results suggest that the upregulation of IDO expression in epidermal stem cells can reduce their immunogenicity by promoting Tregs, thus inducing the immune protection of epidermal stem cells.PMID:38218230 | DOI:10.1016/j.trim.2024.101987 (Source: Transplant Immunology)

Conversion from calcineurin inhibitors to belatacept-based immunosuppressive therapy skews terminal proliferation of non-classical monocytes and lowers lymphocyte counts
Transpl Immunol. 2024 Feb;82:101976. doi: 10.1016/j.trim.2023.101976. Epub 2024 Jan 8.ABSTRACTBelatacept, a modified form of CTLA-Ig that blocks CD28-mediated co-stimulation of T cells, is an immune-suppressant that can be used as an alternative to calcineurin inhibitors (CNIs). In kidney transplant recipients, belatacept has been associated with improved renal function and reduced cardiovascular toxicity. Monocytes as well as T-lymphocytes play causal roles in the pathophysiology of atherosclerotic disease. We hypothesized that the beneficial impact of the use of belatacept over CNIs on cardiovascular risk could be partly...
