Plasma protein signatures reflect systemic immunity and allograft function in kidney transplantation
Kidney transplantation causes large perturbations of the immune system. While many studies focus on the allograft, insights into systemic effects are largely missing. Here, we analyzed the systemic immune response in three cohorts of kidney transplanted patients. Using serum proteomics, laboratory values, mass cytometry, histological and clinical parameters, inter-patient heterogeneity was leveraged for multi-omic co-variation analysis. We identified circulating immune modules (CIM) that describe extra-renal signatures of co-regulated plasma proteins. (Source: Translational Research)

Noninvasive early differential diagnosis and progression monitoring of ovarian cancer using the copy number alterations of plasma cell-free DNA
Ovarian cancer (OV) is the most lethal gynecological malignancy and requires improved early detection methods and more effective intervention to achieve a better prognosis. The lack of sensitive and noninvasive biomarkers with clinical utility remains a challenge. Here, we conducted a genome-wide copy number variation (CNV) profiling analysis using low-coverage whole genome sequencing (LC-WGS) of plasma cfDNA in patients with non-malignant and malignant ovarian tumors, and identified 10 malignancy-specific and 12 late-stage-specific CNV markers from plasma cfDNA LC-WGS data. Synthetic surfactant with a combined SP-B and SP-C analogue is efficient in rabbit models of adult and neonatal respiratory distress syndrome
Respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) in premature infants is caused by insufficient amounts of endogenous lung surfactant and is efficiently treated with replacement therapy using animal-derived surfactant preparations. On the other hand, adult/acute RDS (ARDS) occurs secondary to e.g., sepsis, aspiration of gastric contents, and multitrauma and is caused by alveolar endothelial damage, leakage of plasma components into the airspaces and inhibition of surfactant activity. Instillation of surfactant preparations in ARDS has so far resulted in very limited treatment effects, partly due to inactivation of the delivered surfact...

Lipin-1 deficiency deteriorates defect of fatty acid β-oxidation and lipid-related kidney damage in diabetic kidney disease
This study aimed to explore the molecular mechanism of lipid metabolic regulation in kidney, especially renal PTECs, and elucidate the role of lipid metabolic related molecule lipin-1 in diabetic lipid-related kidney damage. In this study, lipin-1-deficient db/db mouse model and STZ/HFD-induced T2DM mouse model were used to determine the effect of lipin-1 on DKD development. (Source: Translational Research)
