Toxicon. 2024 Feb 22:107656. doi: 10.1016/j.toxicon.2024.107656. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIntraarticular botulinum toxin type A (BTA) has been shown to be effective for painful knee osteoarthritis (KOA), while the efficacy and safety of intraarticular BTA compared to corticosteroid and hyaluronic acid (HA) remains unknown. A meta-analysis was performed to compare. A search was conducted in Medline (PubMed), CENTER (Cochrane Library), Embase (Ovid), Web of Science, Wanfang, and CNKI to find head-to-head randomized controlled trials (RCTs) directly compare the efficacy and safety between intraarticular BTA and intraarti...

Betulinic acid attenuates T-2 toxin-induced lung injury by activating Nrf2 signaling pathway and inhibiting MAPK/NF- κB signaling pathway
Toxicon. 2024 Feb 21:107652. doi: 10.1016/j.toxicon.2024.107652. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTT-2 toxin, a type-A trichothecene mycotoxin, exists ubiquitously in mildewed foods and feeds. Betulinic acid (BA), a pentacyclic triterpenoid derived from plants, has the effect of relieving inflammation and oxidative stress. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether BA mitigates lung impairment caused by T-2 toxin and elucidate the underlying mechanism. The results indicated that T-2 toxin triggered the inflammatory cell infiltration, morphological alterations and cell apoptosis in the lungs. It is gratifying that BA ...

Biopesticide Turex ®'s cytotoxicity, genotoxicity and cell cycle arrest on HepG2 cell line
In conclusion, data demonstrated the potential adverse effects attributed to exposure to biopesticide Turex® in human cell line HepG2. Consequently, this type of biopesticide needs to be further investigated to determine the potential adverse in vivo effects on various non-target organisms.PMID:38387755 | DOI:10.1016/j.toxicon.2024.107653 (Source: Toxicon)

Leucaena leucocephala toxicity in Brazilian horses
Toxicon. 2024 Feb 19:107655. doi: 10.1016/j.toxicon.2024.107655. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLeucaena leucocephala poisoning is reported in horses in different Brazilian regions. The poisoning occurred one month after the horses were introduced into paddocks invaded by the plant or after 10 days of consuming cut Leucaena administered as the only food. Affected horses showed moderate to severe hair loss on the mane and tail, orthokeratotic hyperkeratosis with marked follicular telogenization, and hyperplasia of thyroid follicular cells. Mimosin concentration in leaves (5.5 mg/g) was determined by a new HLPC-UV method whic...

Effects of microcystin-LR on purification efficiency of simulating drinking water source by Hydrocharis dubia (Bl.) backer
This study aims to explore the performance and mechanism of MC-LR on drinking water source purification by Hydrocharis dubia (Bl.) backer. The optimum removal efficiency of NH4+-N, TP and COD were 90.7%, 93.2% and 77.3% at MC-LR concentration of 0.5 μg L-1, respectively. With the increase of MC-LR concentration, the pollutants removal rate was obviously inhibited causing by concentration-dependent. Furthermore, the growth and development of the Hydrocharis dubia (Bl.) backer roots were significantly promoted at the concentration of 0.1 μg L-1. The length, tips, surface area, and average diameter of the root increased by ...

Ruminant metabolism of zygacine, the major toxic alkaloid in foothill death camas (Zigadenuspaniculatus)
The objective of this study was to investigate the metabolism of zygacine in sheep and cattle using in-vitro and in-vivo systems. Results from experiments where zygacine was incubated in rumen culture, plasma, liver S9 fractions, and liver microsomes and from the analysis of rumen and sera from sheep and cattle dosed death camas plant material demonstrated that zygacine is metabolized to zygadenine in the rumen, liver and blood of sheep and cattle. The results from this study indicate that diagnosticians should analyze for zygadenine, and not zygacine, in the rumen and sera for the diagnosis of livestock suspected to have ...
