Quantification of diffuse parenchymal lung disease in non ‐small cell lung cancer patients with definitive concurrent chemoradiation therapy for predicting radiation pneumonitis
ConclusionQuantified imaging features of DPLD obtained from pretreatment CT scans would predict the occurrence of RP in NSCLC patients undergoing definitive CCRT. Combining imaging features with clinical factors could improve the accuracy of the predictive model for severe RP. (Source: Thoracic Cancer)

Effect of chemotherapy on urinary volatile biomarkers for lung cancer by HS ‐SPME‐GC‐MS and chemometrics
ConclusionsChemotherapy administered to patients with advanced lung adenocarcinoma modified the volatile profile of urine. 2-Pentanone, a final product of the increased rate of fatty acid oxidation and protein hypermetabolism, significantly decreased after chemotherapy. Therefore, monitoring its urinary excretion could be very useful since its decrease over time could indicate an adequate response to chemotherapy and arrest of cancer development. Another VOC that could be a potential lung cancer biomarker is 3 hydroxy-2,4,4-trimethylpentyl-2-methylpropanoate, whose origin may be due to inhibition of the propanoic acid meta...

Secular trends of morbidity and mortality of thyroid cancer in five Asian countries from 1990 to 2019 and their predictions to 2035
ConclusionThe disease burden caused by TC will further increase in five Asian countries, especially for men. It is necessary to develop more rational and timely disease prevention and manage strategies facing this disease trend. (Source: Thoracic Cancer)

TIM ‐3 expression induces resistance to PD‐1 inhibitor in G‐CSF‐producing lung spindle cell carcinoma: A case report
In G-CSF producing lung spindle cell carcinoma, oversecreted G-CSF encourages M2 macrophages and Tim-3+ macrophages to proliferate, which may represent a new resistance mechanism to PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors. AbstractLung spindle cell carcinoma is an aggressive subtype of pleomorphic lung cancer resistant to cytotoxic chemotherapy. Programmed cell death-1 (PD-1) inhibitors have been reported to have clinical effects in patients with spindle cell carcinoma; however, the resistance mechanism to PD-1 inhibitors is yet to be fully elucidated. Herein, we report the case of an 88-year-old man with G-CSF-producing spindle cell carcin...

Miliary brain metastases from lung adenocarcinoma with EGFR (L858R) and CTNNB1 mutations
In conclusion, co-mutations of EGFR (L858R) and CTNNB1 and the discontinuation of EGFR-tyrosine kinase inhibitor may contribute to the development of miliary brain metastases. Further case studies are warranted. (Source: Thoracic Cancer)

Trajectories and risk factors of persistent cough after pulmonary resection: A prospective two ‐center study
ConclusionPatients who suffer from persistent CAP face a substantial burden and diminished QOL for an extended period compared to noncough patients. Moreover, prolonged duration of anesthesia and postoperative GER are potential risk factors of persistent CAP. (Source: Thoracic Cancer)

Successful management of postoperative tracheal metastasis in small cell lung cancer with radiotherapy and durvalumab: A case report
At 27  months after right lower lobectomy and lymphadenoctomy, tracheal metastasis was identified. Four months after irradiation and administration of duralumab, the nodule had vanished and normal mucosa could be observed. At 49 months after surgery, a nodule in the subglottic space was discovered. As of 61 months after surgery, the patient is reccurence free since the second course of radiotherapy. AbstractThe patient in this report was a 73-year-old male who was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer (T3N0M0 stage IIB) after presenting with a 5.5  cm tumor detected in the right lower lobe of the lung by radiograph...

Recent advances in neoantigen vaccines for treating non ‐small cell lung cancer
In our institute, two strategies for identifying individual-specific new antigens were established and compared in patients with advanced solid tumors, including lung cancer. In the first strategy, second-generation sequencing of somatic mutations was conducted for each patient, followed by prediction for potential high-affinity mutant epitopes. In the second strategy, a shared library of neoantigen peptides was constructed. Twenty-one mutated genes were selected with a mutation frequency of>10% in solid tumors from the COSMIC database and were further analyzed in 2430 solid tumor sequencing samples from the TCGA databa...
