Development of a targeted educational activity in addictology: From design to use in specialized structures in the Normandy region
CONCLUSION: The tool developed aims to (i) enable opiate users to acquire skills to improve the management of their consumption and the risks involved and (ii) strengthen communication between patients/users and caregivers by offering them the opportunity to be actors of their care. The tool is currently being tested and evaluated in many cities in Normandy and its optimization will allow for an improvement in care that meets the challenges and needs.PMID:37973493 | DOI:10.1016/j.therap.2023.10.003 (Source: Therapie)

Drug-induced hearing loss: Listening to the latest advances
Therapie. 2023 Oct 31:S0040-5957(23)00177-4. doi: 10.1016/j.therap.2023.10.011. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) is the most common type of hearing loss. Causes include degenerative changes in the sensory hair cells, their synapses and/or the cochlear nerve. As human inner ear hair cells have no capacity for regeneration, their destruction is irreversible and leads to permanent hearing loss. SNHL can be genetically inherited or acquired through ageing, exposure to noise or ototoxic drugs. Ototoxicity generally refers to damage to the structures and functions of the inner ear following exposur...

Drug-induced psychiatric disorders: A pharmacovigilance update
Therapie. 2023 Oct 31:S0040-5957(23)00170-1. doi: 10.1016/j.therap.2023.09.007. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe psychiatric risks associated with drugs are sometimes one of the few restrictions on the use of certain drug classes, such as corticosteroids in patients with a history of severe psychotic episodes associated with this drug class. In this non-exhaustive review, we propose to deal with the most recent issues concerning psychiatric disorders induced by drugs and encountered in doctors' clinical practice. Firstly, we look at depressive disorders and suicide risks, secondly at psychotic and manic disorders and thir...

Drug-induced cardiac toxicity and adverse drug reactions, a narrative review
Therapie. 2023 Oct 31:S0040-5957(23)00169-5. doi: 10.1016/j.therap.2023.10.008. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDrug-induced cardiotoxicity is a primary concern in both drug development and clinical practice. Although the heart is not a common target for adverse drug reactions, some drugs still cause various adverse cardiac events, with sometimes severe consequences. Direct cardiac toxicity encompasses functional and structural changes of the cardiovascular system due to possible exposure to medicines. This phenomenon extends beyond cardiovascular drugs to include non-cardiovascular drugs including anticancer drugs such as t...

Antibiotic-induced neurological adverse drug reactions

Central nervous system adverse drug reactions (CNS ADRs) are mostly under-suspected with antibiotics. Nevertheless, these ADRs could lead to severe complications such as encephalopathy. To illustrate the clinical patterns of these off-target ADRs, we here present data from pharmacovigilance system, through different populations and points of view (worldwide, French population, vulnerable population and individual). These data could help clinicians to better kn...

Cutaneous adverse effects of antiepileptic drugs
Therapie. 2023 Oct 4:S0040-5957(23)00141-5. doi: 10.1016/j.therap.2023.09.005. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAntiepileptic drugs (AED) are widely used in therapy. They are mainly indicated in the treatment of epilepsy and some psychiatric pathologies as well as for their analgesic action. Their cutaneous adverse effects (CAE) are common, often mild but sometimes serious. The aim of this work was to study the epidemiological and clinical features of CAE occurring in adults and elderly patients (aged over 20 years-old) and to identify the most implicated AED. We conducted a descriptive retrospective study over a period of fi...
