Therapeutic Drug Monitoring of Antibiotics in the Elderly: A Narrative Review
Conclusions: Elderly patients are at an increased risk of bacterial infections and inadequate drug dosing compared with younger patients. Therefore, the availability of TDM services can improve the appropriateness of antibiotic prescriptions in this population. (Source: Therapeutic Drug Monitoring)

Therapeutic Drug Monitoring of Antimicrobial Drugs in Neonates: An Opinion Article
Conclusions: There is a growing awareness that, in addition to aminoglycosides and vancomycin, the use of beta-lactam antibiotics, such as amoxicillin and meropenem, and other classes of antimicrobial drugs, such as antifungal drugs, may benefit from TDM. However, the added value must be shown. New analytical techniques and software development may greatly support these novel developments. (Source: Therapeutic Drug Monitoring)

Understanding the Pharmacokinetics of Antibiotics in Pregnancy: Is There a Role for Therapeutic Drug Monitoring? A Narrative Review
Conclusions: Knowledge about the impact on pharmacokinetics and fetal exposure is especially helpful for complicated or severe infections, including intra-amniotic infection and sepsis in pregnancy, where both mother and fetus are at risk. Further studies are warranted to consolidate the role of therapeutic drug monitoring in complicated or severe infections in pregnant patients. (Source: Therapeutic Drug Monitoring)

Therapeutic Drug Monitoring of Antibiotic Drugs: The Role of the Clinical Laboratory
Conclusions: Although interest in the field has been the driver for certain progress in analytical technology and quality in recent years, laboratory professionals and commercial providers persistently encounter numerous unresolved challenges. The main tasks that need tackling include broadly and continuously available, easily operated, and cost-effective tests that offer short turnaround times, combined with reliable and easy-to-interpret results. Various fields of research are currently addressing these features. (Source: Therapeutic Drug Monitoring)

Therapeutic Drug Monitoring of Antibiotics: Defining the Therapeutic Range
Conclusions: TDM should only be regarded as a means to achieve the main goal of providing safe and effective antibiotic therapy for all patients. The next critical step is to define exposures that can prevent the development of antibiotic resistance and include these exposures as therapeutic drug monitoring targets. Therapeutic Drug Monitoring of Antibiotics in Critically Ill Patients: Current Practice and Future Perspectives With a Focus on Clinical Outcome
Conclusion: After reviewing the literature, we can conclude that general TDM implementation is advised for glycopeptides and aminoglycosides, as evidence of the relationship between TDM and clinical outcome is present. For antibiotics, such as beta-lactams, fluoroquinolones, and linezolid, it seems rational to perform TDM in specific patient cases. TDM involving other antibiotics is supported by individual cases, specifically to decrease toxicity. When focusing on future possibilities to improve TDM of antibiotics in critically ill patients, implementation of model-informed precision dosing should be investigated becau...

Therapeutic Drug Monitoring of Anti-infective Drugs: Implementation Strategies for 3 Different Scenarios
Conclusions: To benefit patients, TDM strategies need to be tailored to the intended population. Strategies can be adapted for rapid turnaround time for critically ill patients, convenient sampling for outpatients, and feasibility for those in settings with limited laboratory resources. Plasma Concentration After the First Hemoperfusion has a High Predictive Value in Medium Level Acute Paraquat-Poisoned Patients
Background: Paraquat ( PQ) is very poisonous to humans and animals and there is no effective clinical antidote . The efficacy of hemoperfusion (HP) treatment for PQ poisoning remains controversial. To explore new ways to predict the prognosis of patients with acute PQ poisoning and assist in the development of better hemopurification treatment strategies. Methods: The clinical data of patients who were intoxicated with PQ through contact were diagnosed with PQ poisoning by high-performance liquid chromatography. Samples were collected by the Emergency Intensive Care Unit of the First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzh...

Determination of Free Valproic Acid Concentration in 569 Clinical Samples by LC-MS/MS After Hollow Fiber Centrifugal Ultrafiltration Treatment
Objective: To perform therapeutic drug monitoring of total and free plasma valproic acid (VPA) concentrations in clinical samples and to analyze the related factors. Methods: The total VPA concentration in plasma was determined by ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography with precolumn derivatization with α-bromoacetophenone, and the free VPA concentration was determined by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry after the plasma was treated by hollow fiber centrifugal ultrafiltration. Regression analysis was performed to examine the associations between free plasma VPA, total plasma VPA, and the plas...

Pregnancy Has No Clinically Significant Effect on the Pharmacokinetics of Bupropion or Its Metabolites
Conclusions: This study showed that there are no clinically meaningful differences in the stereoselective disposition of BUP or its metabolites during pregnancy, indicating that dose adjustment during pregnancy may not be necessary. The results also showed that the placenta provides a partial barrier for bupropion and its metabolite distribution to the fetus, with possible placental efflux transport of bupropion and its metabolites. An Liquid Chromatography–Tandem Mass Spectrometry Method for the Simultaneous Determination of Afatinib, Alectinib, Ceritinib, Crizotinib, Dacomitinib, Erlotinib, Gefitinib, and Osimertinib in Human Serum
Conclusions: An LC-MS/MS method suitable for the simultaneous determination of 5 EGFR-TKIs and 3 ALK inhibitors in serum was developed and validated. The newly developed method enabled the determination of 5 of 8 target drugs examined in clinical samples. However, a large number of clinical samples need to be analyzed to verify the usefulness of the method. (Source: Therapeutic Drug Monitoring)
