Melatonin prevents the dysbiosis of intestinal microbiota in sleep-restricted mice by improving oxidative stress and inhibiting inflammation
Conclusions: Melatonin prevents the dysbiosis of intestinal microbiota in SR mice by improving oxidative stress and inhibiting inflammation. Our results may provide a theoretical basis for conducting clinical research on insufficient sleep leading to intestinal health in humans and hence facilitate a better understanding of the role of melatonin. Rate and risk factors of postoperative endoscopic recurrence of moderate- to high-risk Crohn & #39;s disease patients - A real-world experience from a Middle Eastern cohort
Conclusions: The use of biological therapies post-surgery was not superior than AZA in reducing the endoscopic POR for mod- high risk CD patients. Only penetrating behavior of the CD was associated with significantly lower risk of endoscopic recurrence. This finding is worth further investigation in more robust study designs and among larger samples of patients. (Source: The Saudi Journal of Gastroenterology)

Early discontinuation of biological therapy among inflammatory bowel disease patients in Bahrain: Real world experience
Conclusion: The older the IBD patient at the time of biological therapy initiation, the higher the incidence of early BD. Therefore, caution and close follow-up are required for biological therapy among elderly patients to assess effectiveness and adverse drug reactions. (Source: The Saudi Journal of Gastroenterology)

Comparative effectiveness and tolerability of targeted agents combined with chemotherapy in patients with HER2-positive gastroesophageal cancer: A network meta-analysis
Conclusion: TraD had relative advantages as the second- or third-line therapy and in the IHC3 + population. PerTraChemo is a potential first-line therapy, but it requires further confirmation because the JACOB phase III clinical trial failed to confirm the superiority of PerTraChemo over TraChemo with regard to OS. Vitamin D and iron deficiencies among Saudi children and adolescents: A persistent problem in the 21st century
Conclusion: Vitamin D and iron deficiencies are still common forms of malnutrition in the Saudi community, that have remained unchanged over the past 20–30 years, while the intake of trace elements (zinc, copper, and selenium) is adequate as evident by normal serum levels in the vast majority of the investigated children. We could not observe a correlation between undernutrition and micronutrient deficiencies. (Source: The Saudi Journal of Gastroenterology)

Pancreatic cystic neoplasms: Adherence to management recommendations and associated endosonographic cyst characteristics
Conclusions: Although the majority of patients with PCN adhered to given recommendations after EUS examination, the number of noncompliant subjects was noticeable. The presence of cystic “worrisome” features did not correlate with an increased compliance rate to suggested management plan. Further prospective studies are needed to elucidate the factors that may enhance patients' adherence. (Source: The Saudi Journal of Gastroenterology)

Modelling the episodes of care for iron deficiency anemia patients in a secondary-care center using continuous-time multistate Markov chain
Conclusion: A baseline model was proposed to represent episodes of care for IDA patients at a secondary care center. Preliminary results highlight the importance of completing the GI investigations, especially in IDA patients, who are at high risk of GI cancer and fit to go through the investigations.
