The Digital Transition: Are Adults Aged 65 Years or Older Willing to Complete Online Forms and Questionnaires in Patient Portals?
CONCLUSIONS: Health care teams should assess older adults' capabilities and comfort related to completion of patient portal-based forms and support those willing to make the digital transition. Paper forms and oral collection of information should remain available for those unable or unwilling to make this digital transition.PMID:38317596 | DOI:10.7812/TPP/23.112 (Source: The Permanente journal)

Implementation and Evaluation of Adverse Childhood Experiences Screening in Pediatrics and Obstetrics Settings
CONCLUSION: This evaluation can serve as support for care teams who are considering implementing ACEs screening or who are already screening for ACEs. More research is needed regarding the relationship between ACEs and preventable and treatable health outcomes to improve health for patients and their families.PMID:38282469 | DOI:10.7812/TPP/23.099 (Source: The Permanente journal)

Medical Students' Knowledge, Attitudes Toward, and Identification of Adverse Childhood Experiences and Trauma-Informed Care
CONCLUSIONS: Medical students would benefit from curricular efforts that help to increase knowledge of the link between ACEs and health, increase practical application of ACEs and TIC, and improve their ability to identify ACEs in clinical scenarios.PMID:38284149 | DOI:10.7812/TPP/23.108 (Source: The Permanente journal)

Personalized Mobile Health-Enhanced Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Maternal Distress: Examining the Moderating Role of Adverse Childhood Experiences
CONCLUSIONS: Findings support effectiveness of the MB-P intervention to reduce prenatal distress for all pregnant individuals. Preliminary exploration suggests the possibility that individuals with ACEs may benefit from enhanced trauma-informed content to optimize the effects of a perinatal intervention.PMID:38263868 | DOI:10.7812/TPP/23.094 (Source: The Permanente journal)

Clinic Readiness for Trauma-Informed Health Care Is Associated With Uptake of Screening for Adverse Childhood Experiences
CONCLUSION: A trauma-informed clinic is the foundation for successful adoption of ACE screening. ACE screening initiatives should include education and sufficient support for clinics to embrace a trauma-informed systems change process.PMID:38234229 | DOI:10.7812/TPP/23.085 (Source: The Permanente journal)

Narrative Medicine: The Power of Shared Stories to Enhance Inclusive Clinical Care, Clinician Well-Being, and Medical Education
Perm J. 2024 Jan 16:1-9. doi: 10.7812/TPP/23.116. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated the problem of secondary trauma and moral injury for health care workers. This reality, together with the epidemic of social isolation and loneliness, has brought the mental health of health care practitioners and patients to the forefront of the national conversation. Narrative medicine is an accessible, diversity-honoring, low-cost, underutilized pedagogical framework with potentially revolutionary benefits for enhancing patient care, supporting the underserved, mitigating clinician burnout, and improving tea...

Concurrent Sexually Transmitted Infections with Mpox Infections: A Brief Review
Perm J. 2024 Jan 9:1-4. doi: 10.7812/TPP/23.072. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMpox is a viral zoonotic infection endemic to countries in Central and West Africa. The outbreak that began in May 2022 is novel for its global spread and transmission through sexual encounters. Research of this outbreak shows a high rate of concurrent sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in patients with mpox, highlighting the need to consider STIs in mpox management, and to raise awareness of historically high levels of STIs caused by inadequacies in sexual health care. It is critical to prioritize sexual health and address health disparitie...
