Management of Chronic Subdural Hematoma in Patients Requiring Therapeutic Anticoagulation
Conclusions: These cases provide anecdotal evidence of a challenging clinical scenario where there is a necessary indication for therapeutic anticoagulation (ie, venous sinus thrombosis or atrial appendage thrombus) and comorbid SDH. Endovascular MMA embolization may be an effective adjunct therapy for clinical scenarios in patients with SDH and an urgent indication for anticoagulation. Longer follow-up, prospective series, and future randomized clinical trials are needed to objectively assess outcomes in this clinically challenging patient population. (Source: The Neurologist)

Adrenal Crisis Presenting as Recurrent Encephalopathy Mimicking Autoimmune, Infectious Encephalitis, and Common Variable Immune Deficiency: A Case Report
Conclusion: The reported patient demonstrated some of the neurological complications of adrenal crisis which can mimic other autoimmune conditions such as CVID. The neurologist should be aware that recurrent encephalopathy from adrenal insufficiency can occur regardless of hemodynamic or electrolyte changes on typical hospital metabolic panels. Trigger Point Injection as a Rare Cause of Ischemic Stroke: A Case Report
Conclusion: The reported patient is the first in the literature who suffered from ischemic stroke after TPI. The use of ultrasound for injections into the neck muscles could avoid serious complications. (Source: The Neurologist)

Restless Leg Syndrome in Hemodialysis Patients: A Narrative Review
Conclusion: Further efforts are still required to improve the understanding of RLS pathogenic trends to find more specific and efficient therapies. A wide range of treatment options is available. However, it can be individualized according to the patients’ several factors. (Source: The Neurologist)

Clinical Review of Smartphone Applications in Parkinson’s Disease
Conclusions: Smartphone applications provide a wide array of platforms allowing for meaningful short-term and long-term data collection and are also being tested for intervention. However, the variability of the applications and the need to translate complicated sensor data may hinder immediate clinical applicability. Future studies should involve stake-holders early in the design process to promote usability and streamline the interface between patients, clinicians, and PD apps. (Source: The Neurologist)

Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation and Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation as Treatment of Poststroke Depression: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Background: Previous studies showed that the application of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) and transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) during stroke rehabilitation improve the depression symptoms in poststroke depression (PSD). However, some studies showed inconsistent results. The study was designed to make a meta-analysis to evaluate the effect of noninvasive brain stimulation (tDCS and rTMS) on PSD. Methods: Articles published before July 2021 were searched in databases: PubMed, Web of Science, and Google Scholar. STATA 12.0 software was utilized to make meta-analysis. We extracted...

Brain Camp: A Summer Pipeline Program to Increase Diversity in Neurosciences
Conclusions: Brain Camp seeks to address the unmet need for low barrier-to-entry programs designed for URM high-school students interested in health care careers. We envision that our camp may serve as a blueprint for other similar programs across the nation with the goal of addressing the URM pipeline in neuroscience. (Source: The Neurologist)

Association of Changed Serum Brain Biomarkers With Perihematomal Edema and Early Clinical Outcome in Primary ICH Patients
Background: Perihematomal edema (PHE) following primary intracranial hemorrhages (ICHs) affects the patient outcome. Also, serum biomarkers such as S100 calcium-binding protein B (S100B) and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) have been associated with ICHs outcome. We aimed to investigate the association between these biomarkers and PHE in ICH patients. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, patients with primary ICH between January 2020 and August 2020 were evaluated. All participants underwent spiral brain computed tomography scans upon admission, and 48 to 72 hours later and quantification of initial hem...

Association Analysis Between HLA-DQA1 Loci and Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder in a Han Chinese Population
Conclusion: In the current study, there is no evidence that polymorphism of rs28383224 in the HLA-DQA1 gene is associated with the risk of NMOSD in the Han Chinese population. (Source: The Neurologist)

The Relationship Between Renal Function and Imaging Markers and Total Burden of Cerebral Small Vessel Disease
Conclusion: Our results indicate that there is a relationship between renal function impairment and increased total burden, as well as acute ischemic stroke/transient ischemic attack due to small vessel occlusion. (Source: The Neurologist)

A Case With New-Onset Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder Following COVID-19 mRNA BNT162b2 Vaccination
Conclusion: Our case identifies the BNT162b2 vaccine as a possible trigger for neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder. This rare and potentially coincidental event has no implications for vaccine administration practices. However, further research is needed to elucidate the effects of mRNA vaccines on humoral and cell-mediated immunity. (Source: The Neurologist)

Concurrent Cerebral, Splenic, and Renal Infarction in a Patient With COVID-19 Infection
Conclusion: In this case, a patient with multiple thrombotic events in the acute phase of COVID-19 infection, the delimitation of the inflammatory state through analytical markers as D-dimer helped to individualize the antithrombotic treatment (full anticoagulation or anticoagulation at intermediate doses plus antiplatelet treatment as used in our patient) and its duration. However, more data are needed to better understand the mechanisms and treatment of stroke in patients with COVID-19 infection. (Source: The Neurologist)

Isolated Abducens Nerve Palsy in a Patient With COVID-19: A Case Report and Literature Review
Conclusions: Isolated abducens nerve palsy can be the only presenting symptom in COVID-19. Although several pathophysiological mechanisms have been proposed, the exact nature of this manifestation has not been clarified yet. Vigilance is required by neurologists to detect and manage patients with such subtle clinical presentations. (Source: The Neurologist)
