Reduced risk of gastrointestinal bleeding associated with eupatilin in aspirin plus acid suppressant users: nationwide population-based study
CONCLUSIONS: Eupatilin administration for ≥ 3 months showed additional preventive effect on GI bleeding in concomitant aspirin and acid suppressant users. Thus, cotreatment with eupatilin with a duration of 3 months or longer is recommended for reducing GI bleeding among aspirin plus acid suppressant users.PMID:38092556 | DOI:10.3904/kjim.2023.324 (Source: The Korean Journal of Internal Medicine)

Sex differences in clinical characteristics and long-term outcome in patients with heart failure: data from the KorAHF registry
CONCLUSIONS: In the Korean multi-center registry, despite having better clinical characteristics, men exhibited a higher risk of all-cause mortality and readmission for HF. The main cause of these disparities was the higher cardiovascular mortality rate observed in men compared to women with HFrEF.PMID:38092557 | DOI:10.3904/kjim.2023.288 (Source: The Korean Journal of Internal Medicine)

Sex differences in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease characteristics: the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2007-2018
CONCLUSIONS: Females with COPD had a lower smoking rate, household income, and lung cancer prevalence than males with COPD. More active COPD screening is needed for women of low socioeconomic status, even if they do not smoke.PMID:38092558 | DOI:10.3904/kjim.2023.036 (Source: The Korean Journal of Internal Medicine)

Glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor and its role in attenuating renal fibrosis: a review
Korean J Intern Med. 2023 Dec 13. doi: 10.3904/kjim.2023.246. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChronic kidney disease is estimated to affect approximately 10 to 15% of the Chinese population. Renal fibrosis is characterized by progressive extracellular matrix deposition in the kidney parenchyma with eventual tissue scarring and inevitable deterioration of renal function. Vascular rarefaction, glomerulosclerosis, interstitial inflammation, and fibrogenesis are associated with or contribute to renal fibrosis. Recent studies have revealed that glial cell-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) is involved in kidney morphogenesis and ...

Histologic features and predicting prognosis in ulcerative colitis patients with mild endoscopic activity
CONCLUSIONS: Histological activity can help predict the prognosis of patients with UC with mild endoscopic activity. Mucosal friability observed on endoscopy may reflect a more severe histological status, which can be a risk factor for disease progression.PMID:38086619 | DOI:10.3904/kjim.2023.167 (Source: The Korean Journal of Internal Medicine)

Time to presentation and mortality outcomes among patients with diabetes and acute myocardial infarction
CONCLUSIONS: Late presentation was associated with higher mortality in patients with AMI-DM; therefore, multifaceted and systematic interventions are needed to decrease pre-hospital delays.PMID:38086620 | DOI:10.3904/kjim.2023.307 (Source: The Korean Journal of Internal Medicine)
