Comparison of complications and indwelling time of midline catheter at different tip locations: A systematic review and meta-analysis
J Vasc Access. 2023 Dec 12:11297298231199776. doi: 10.1177/11297298231199776. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThis review was performed to determine whether different tip locations of a midline catheter can cause differences in the incidence of complications and the catheter indwelling time. PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), and Wanfang were systematically searched. RevMan 5.3 software was used for the meta-analysis. Heterogeneity was evaluated, and the mean differences or odds ratios with 95...

Complete stent graft relining of the hemodialysis access circuit for access salvage
CONCLUSIONS: Salvage of failing hemodialysis access circuits by complete SG relining should be considered for a limited subgroup of patients where the access circuit would otherwise be deemed unsalvageable. Complete SG relining has both good immediate outcomes and 6- and 12-month patency rates.PMID:38087645 | DOI:10.1177/11297298231205006 (Source: The Journal of Vascular Access)

Salvage treatment of forearm arteriovenous fistula with small caliber inflow distal artery by percutaneous transluminal angioplasty
CONCLUSION: Whole distal inflow arterial PTA is an effective and safe option for distal AVF salvage with a narrowed inflow artery, frequently refractory to conventional venous PTA.PMID:38087648 | DOI:10.1177/11297298231213670 (Source: The Journal of Vascular Access)

Diameter and depth of femoral vessels by duplex ultrasound
CONCLUSIONS: This study establishes mean diameters and depths for the common femoral artery and vein using a large, diverse patient group. BSA was most closely associated with vessel diameter, while weight was correlated with depth. This study provides normative diameter and depth values for the common femoral vasculature, which may assist in vascular access planning for providers.PMID:38087816 | DOI:10.1177/11297298231200036 (Source: The Journal of Vascular Access)

POCUS guided small saphenous vein cannulation: A novel approach for peripheral venous assess in prone position
J Vasc Access. 2023 Dec 12:11297298231200287. doi: 10.1177/11297298231200287. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPeripheral intravenous cannulation (PIVC) is a routine procedure in perioperative, and critical care settings and nearly one-third of the patients may have difficult intravenous access (DIVA). PIVC is challenging in a prone position in an intraoperative setting when there is a need for emergency access. Point of care ultrasonography (POCUS) is becoming the standard for assisting DIVA and improving the success rate. The small saphenous vein (SSV) in the posterolateral side of the mid-calf is a consistent vein in the l...

Development of an educational program for ultrasound-based tip location during placement of PICC-port to improve the competence of specialized nurse
CONCLUSION: The program, encompassing theoretical and practical components, as well as assessment items, can be applied in specialized nursing education and skills training, and it enhances nurses' competence in accurately identifying the tip location during the placement of PICC-ports and other central venous access implants.PMID:38087502 | DOI:10.1177/11297298231200916 (Source: The Journal of Vascular Access)
