Transradial access embolization of carotid-cavernous fistulae: Case report
We present a case of a male patient from a developing country, with gunshot wound head trauma history and short-term progressive functional and neurological impairment in the presence of intracranial hypertension and ocular symptoms who developed a large CFF, subsequently treated by transradial access embolization. We aim to describe the real-world experience in diagnosis and treatment of CCFs, emphasizing on the scope and outcomes of the endovascular treatment. This case supports worldwide experience, positioning endovascular therapy as an effective strategy in the resolution of CFFs, and the relevance of suspecting this ...

Vascular access for hemodialysis in Italy: What a national survey reveals
CONCLUSIONS: Some considerations emerge from the survey data: (1) The increasing CVC prevalence compared to DOPPS 5 study. (2) The low rate of AVG prevalence. (3) The nephrologist is the operator in many VA procedures. (4) The fluoroscopy for CVC placement and the US-guide puncture of the complex AVF are widely used in most facilities. (5) The practice of the buttonhole is not widespread. (6) When the operator is the nephrologist more distal fistulas are performed.PMID:38235699 | DOI:10.1177/11297298231217318 (Source: The Journal of Vascular Access)

Reinsertion of tunneled-cuffed catheter in hemodialysis patients with catheter loss and limited access options
CONCLUSION: This maneuver is a safe and convenient technique that can be used to reinsert a TCC for patients with long-time catheter loss. It helps to preserve the limited central venous resources for patients who have difficulty establishing other stable vascular access.PMID:38217318 | DOI:10.1177/11297298231224092 (Source: The Journal of Vascular Access)

Operation STICK: A vascular access specialty program for the generalist emergency medicine clinician
CONCLUSIONS: Achieving competency in PIVC insertion necessitates a focused effort on refining and systematizing education and training approaches. Recognizing the inherent challenges present in ED settings, it is feasible to effectively and efficiently train emergency clinicians to be expert in both basic and advanced PIVC placement techniques through participation in a well-organized vascular access training program.PMID:38214160 | DOI:10.1177/11297298231222060 (Source: The Journal of Vascular Access)

Alternative dialysis access strategies: A case report of a patient with transrenal hemodialysis catheter due to exhausted traditional routes and review of literature
We present a case of a 61-year-old male who exhausted all the traditional vascular access options, therefore trans-renal hemodialysis catheter placement was performed. Overall, this case highlights the challenges of securing a reliable vascular access to perform dialysis therapy and implementing unconventional methods whenever regular means are exhausted.PMID:38205592 | DOI:10.1177/11297298231220534 (Source: The Journal of Vascular Access)

Implementation of a vascular access team and an intravenous therapy programme: A first-year activity analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Our study provides a detailed analysis of VAT's activity, its relevance to clinical safety, and to efficient resource management within our hospital. It demonstrates how VAT establishment can be a safe and efficient intervention that enhances care quality.PMID:38205609 | DOI:10.1177/11297298231220537 (Source: The Journal of Vascular Access)

Distal AVF creation with marginal calcified radial artery: Multicentric experience of intraoperative intravascular lithotripsy
CONCLUSION: These results showed how intraoperative IVL could help to recruit huge calcified marginal artery to create autogenous distal forearm AVF, avoiding proximal AVF, risking distal ischemia syndrome, and sparing vascular district to eventually rebuilt more proximal AVF in future.PMID:38205610 | DOI:10.1177/11297298231222051 (Source: The Journal of Vascular Access)

A 4-year tunneled hemodialysis catheter malpositioned into the azygos vein and how to remedy the hemodialysis circuit
J Vasc Access. 2024 Jan 10:11297298231223108. doi: 10.1177/11297298231223108. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMispositioning in the azygos vein is a rare but hazardous complication of central venous catheterization. A patient was admitted for a dysfunctional hemodialysis tunneled cuffed catheter (TCC) placed in the azygos vein for 4 years. Computed tomography angiography revealed multiple sites of occlusion, including the superior vena cava (SVC), right and left innominate veins (IVs), and right femoral vein. Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty and a TCC replacement based on a segment-by-segment recanalizing strategy were ...

Comparison of procedural time with two different ultrasound-guided approaches for dorsalis pedis artery cannulation in adult patients: A randomized trial
CONCLUSIONS: In adults, both views of ultrasonography can be used to guide DPA cannulation. The cannulation time for the DPA in L group was less than the S group, whereas the assessment time was less in S group. The total procedure time, however, was similar between both the groups.PMID:38197213 | DOI:10.1177/11297298231219431 (Source: The Journal of Vascular Access)

Efficacy and safety of implantable vascular support in the treatment of arteriovenous fistula: A single-arm meta-analyses
CONCLUSIONS: Meta-analysis data of this study show that the VasQ device has a good effect in improving the patency rate of AVF and does not increase the occurrence of adverse events. However, due to the limitation of the number and quality of included studies, more high-quality studies are needed to confirm this in the future.PMID:38197230 | DOI:10.1177/11297298231223537 (Source: The Journal of Vascular Access)

Systematic review and meta-analysis comparing Manta device and Perclose device for closure of large bore arterial access
J Vasc Access. 2024 Jan 8:11297298231222314. doi: 10.1177/11297298231222314. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTData comparing MANTA device with Perclose device for large bore arterial access closure is limited. We performed meta-analysis to compare safety and efficacy of the two devices in large (⩾14 Fr sheath) arteriotomy closure post-TAVR. Relevant studies were identified via PubMed, Cochrane, and EMBASE databases until June, 2022. Data was analyzed using random effect model to calculate relative odds of VARC-2 defined access-site complications and short-term (in-hospital or 30-day) mortality. A total of 12 studies (2 RCT ...
