Health-related quality of life and functional outcome measures for pediatric multiple injury: A systematic review and narrative synthesis
CONCLUSION There was a lack of consistency in the outcome tools used following multiple injury in children. Adult-validated measures may not accurately capture pediatric outcomes after multiple injury. To fully understand the impact of pediatric multiple injury and make comparisons between studies, development of a core outcome set is required. A scoping review of nontechnical skill assessment tools to evaluate trauma team performance
CONCLUSION We identified 12 trauma team performance tools that assessed nontechnical skills to varying degrees. Trauma Nontechnical Skills Scale and TEAM tools had the most evidence to support their reliability and validity. Considering the limited research in the impact of trauma team performance on patient outcomes, future studies could use video review technology in authentic trauma cases to further study this important relationship. Prognostic factors associated with development of infected necrosis in patients with acute necrotizing or severe pancreatitis—A systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION This meta-analysis confirms the association between several clinical early prognostic factors and the risk of IPN development among patients with severe or necrotizing pancreatitis. These findings provide the foundation for the development of an IPN risk stratification tool to guide more targeted clinical trials for prevention or early intervention strategies. Preperitoneal packing versus angioembolization for the initial management of hemodynamically unstable pelvic fracture: A systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION Because of bias, heterogeneity, and inadequate reporting of physiological data, a conclusive comparison between modalities is impossible. In addition, in more than a quarter of the cases treated with PPP, the patients did not achieve hemorrhage control until subsequent AE was performed. BACKGROUND Assessment of the volemic loss is a major challenge during the management of hemorrhagic shock. Echocardiography is an increasingly used noninvasive tool for hemodynamic assessment. Developing a National Trauma Research Action Plan: Results from the Neurotrauma Research Panel Delphi Survey
CONCLUSION This Delphi gap analysis of neurotrauma research identified 56 high-priority research questions. There are clear areas of focus for severe TBI, mTBI, and spinal cord injury that will help guide investigators in future neurotrauma research. The tight rope act: A multicenter regional experience of tourniquets in acute trauma resuscitation
This study sought to characterize the incidence, indication, and efficacy of tourniquet placement in acute trauma resuscitation. Demographic changes in pelvic fracture patterns at a Swiss academic trauma center from 2007 to 2017
CONCLUSION The current results corroborate the trend of increasing frequency of fragility fractures in an aging society. The demographic shift has a direct impact on fracture pattern with a disproportionate increase in partially stable compression fracture of the pelvis.
