Efficient synthesis of 3-TBDMS-11α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 and D2 ethers
Publication date: Available online 22 February 2020Source: The Journal of Steroid Biochemistry and Molecular BiologyAuthor(s): Lars Kattner, Erik RauchAbstractVitamin D deficiency might cause a wide variety of human disorders. As a prerequisite for appropriate diagnosis and therapy, medicinally relevant vitamin D metabolites have to be assayed most accurately and with high specificity. It has been demonstrated, that vitamin D conjugates, linked via a hydroxyl group at C11, might be promising for the development of highly specific antibodies to be employed in competitive protein binding assays. The connective synthesis of 3...

Bisphenol A affects endometrial stromal cells decidualization, involvement of epigenetic regulation
In this study, we focused on the correlation between environmentally relevant levels of BPA exposure and histone modification during endometrial stromal cells decidualization. BPA exposure changed the morphology of decidualized endometrial stromal cells, with inhibition of mixed-lineage leukemia 1(MLL1) and induction of enhancer of zeste homolog2 (EZH2) during in vitro decidualization. The expression of HOXA10, PRL and IGFBP-1 was down-regulated upon BPA treatment. Furthermore, chromatin immunoprecipitation quantitative PCR(ChIP-qPCR) was performed to evaluate the recruitment of histone-3, lysine-4 trimethylation (H3K4me3)...

Oral Manifestations of Magnesium and Vitamin D Inadequacy
Publication date: Available online 18 February 2020Source: The Journal of Steroid Biochemistry and Molecular BiologyAuthor(s): Anne Marie Uwitonze, Sayeeda Rahman, Nkemcho Ojeh, William B. Grant, Harleen Kaur, Afrozul Haq, Mohammed S. RazzaqueAbstractAdequate nutrition is essential for maintaining good oral health. Minerals such as magnesium, calcium, and phosphorus found in the diet constitute the main structural components of the tooth. Their inadequacy leads to absorption impairment, increased bleeding tendency, bone resorption, looseness, and premature tooth loss. Inadequacy of those essential minerals is associated wi...

Effect of UVB light on vitamin D status in piglets and sows
Publication date: Available online 19 February 2020Source: The Journal of Steroid Biochemistry and Molecular BiologyAuthor(s): Sine Stricker Jakobsen, Jens Peter Nielsen, Jette JakobsenAbstractPiglets are born with very low levels of vitamin D. Feed is the only source of vitamin D for pigs kept indoors, and the levels in feed are restricted by European legislation. We aimed to study the effect of lamps releasing ultraviolet type B (UVB) light on the vitamin D status (serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D) in sows and piglets in a Danish indoor herd.A randomized trial with a parallel group design was initiated with two groups receiving...

Biotin supplementation causes erroneous elevations of results in some commercial serum 25-hydroxyvitamin d (25ohd) assays
Publication date: Available online 19 February 2020Source: The Journal of Steroid Biochemistry and Molecular BiologyAuthor(s): GD Carter, J Berry, E Cavalier, R Durazo-Arvizu, E Gunter, G Jones, J Jones, K Phinney, CT Sempos, PJ Twomey, EL WilliamsAbstractThe Vitamin D External Quality Assessment Scheme (DEQAS) distributes serum samples globally, on a quarterly basis, to assess participants’ performance of specific methods for 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25OHD) and 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D (1,25-(OH)2D). DEQAS occasionally circulates samples containing high levels of substances found in certain clinical situations e.g. 25-OH-D2,...
