The impact of an effective 3-step hand hygiene technique in reducing potentially pathogenic microorganisms found on nursing professionals ’ hands
Conclusions: Overall correct hand hygiene technique was poor. The results indicated the presence of potentially pathogenic microorganisms at moments in which hand hygiene was mandatory but was not executed or was executed incorrectly. The 3-step hand hygiene technique proved to be effective when correctly performed since there were no microorganism growth. Larger studies are needed to test if these results can be replicated at a larger scale, since streamlining hand hygiene technique yielded encouraging results. Exposure to COVID-19 among unvaccinated healthcare personnel and risk for infection: a single-center retrospective study
Conclusions: Given the attack rates, there was no correlation between risk levels and PCR test positivity rates. There was no difference between HCWs with or without work restrictions, in terms of PCR positivity. Due to feasibility issues, prioritizing universally applied symptom screening and resource control strategies and suspending contact tracing and work restrictions, appear to be safe during high prevalence period. Anthrax toxins-producing Bacillus spp. isolated from handwashing stations during COVID-19 pandemic in Lagos, Nigeria
Conclusions: The two anthrax toxin genes were amplified in theBacillus spp isolated from rinsates and bowl water used in hand washing in the two study LGAs. Given that these virulence genes have a global consequence and are a potential threat to life, this study calls for an extensive surveillance, and reassessment of gene regulators and plasmid distribution among these strains in our environment. COVID-19 pandemic impact on antibiotics sensitivity of E. coli and K. pneumoniae from urine specimens: a retrospective study
Conclusions: The antimicrobial susceptibility pattern for urine isolates showed an increased overall sensitivity and an increased resistance to ceftriaxone and gentamicin during the pandemic period. Our results highlight the need for revising and updating the antimicrobial stewardship programs post-COVID pandemic utilizing local data. (Source: The Journal of Infection in Developing Countries)

Computed tomography findings in COVID-19 and atypical pneumonia: a comparative study
Conclusions: There were significant differences between the CT patterns of patients with COVID-19 and other atypical pneumonia. The presence of patchy consolidations, GGO, crazy paving patterns with typical peripheral, bilateral distribution, and absence of centrilobular nodules, pleural effusion, and multifocal consolidations may help to differentiate COVID-19 from atypical pneumonia. Could ischemia-modified albumin levels predict the severity of disease in SARS-CoV-2 infection?
Conclusions: We analyzed a sample of patients with COVID-19 infection and found that IMA predicted severe COVID-19 disease. Disease severity grouping was based on patients ' clinical and radiological features. IMA level measured when SARS-CoV-2 infection is diagnosed may be a useful marker in predicting likely disease severity or intensive care need. Pulmonary functions and life quality assessment results two years after COVID-19 comparison with the sixth month results
Conclusions: Functional and radiological abnormalities were detected in a significant number of patients on the 24th month. A systematic monitoring plan must be established to assess and properly manage the long-term problems that may arise. (Source: The Journal of Infection in Developing Countries)

Elevated circulating TLR4+ monocytes in patients with liver fluke Opisthorchis viverrini is associated with advanced periductal fibrosis
Conclusions: We propose that excessive production of ROS from these TLR4+ monocytes may lead to excessive injury of surrounding tissue and hence contribute to the pathological processes that lead to the development of advanced periductal fibrosis. Induction of TLR5, IRAK1, and NF- κB expression by Trichomonas vaginalis in cervical cancer cell (HeLa) and normal human vaginal epithelial cell (HVECs) lines
Conclusions: These findings provide insight into the host-parasite interaction, and the results indicated thatT. vaginalis could stimulate TLR5 and activate related pathways. (Source: The Journal of Infection in Developing Countries)

Knowledge and predictors of attitudes of hepatitis B virus infection prevention among adults in Tolon, Northern Ghana
Conclusions: Knowledge levels are sub-optimal with unsatisfactory attitudes toward HBV infection prevention in the study setting. Participants ’ age and knowledge of HBV are significant predictors of attitudes toward its prevention. There is a need to increase access to formal education and health promotion programs in the district, to complement government efforts to attain Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG-3). The prevalence of HBV, HCV, and HIV among hemodialysis patients in a tertiary care hospital in Mashhad, Iran
Conclusions: Prevalence of HBV was high and significant. More preventive measures need to be developed, and further studies should be conducted to examine the effectiveness of these measures. Moreover, evaluating the prevalence rates of HBV, HCV, and HIV in other hospitals and dialysis centers in Mashhad is recommended to minimize viral infections. Initial HBV vaccination for patients that require hemodialysis is crucial. (Source: The Journal of Infection in Developing Countries)

Factors associated with all-cause mortality in tuberculosis patients in a Malaysian tertiary hospital
Conclusions: On average, one in seven patients diagnosed with TB died within a year in a Malaysian tertiary hospital. Identification of this vulnerable group using the associated factors found in this study may help to reduce the risk of mortality through early intervention strategies. Activation of the DNA damage response pathway in the infected gastric tissue with Helicobacter pylori: a case-control study
Conclusions: Our results provide new data that may support the potential involvement ofH. pylori infection in the activation of genes involved in DNA damage response, mainly through a non-homologous end-joining DNA repair system that might be linked to mutagenesis in the pre-cancerous gastric tissue.
