Clinical features of patients presenting with fever of unknown origin caused by non-tuberculous mycobacterium infection
Conclusions: Microbiological investigations including culture, acid-fast staining, NTM nucleic acid examination, and next-generation sequencing were performed to confirm the diagnosis of NTM in FUO patients. FUO patients should screen for NTM infections so that this important etiology can be recognized, targeted treatments administered early, and outcomes improved. Determination of chlamydial load in recurrent miscarriage in relation to some female sex hormones: a case-control study
Conclusions: Overall findings suggest that interplay between chlamydial copy load, hormonal changes such as increased expression of estrogen and decreased expression of progesterone, and advanced gestational age may be contributing as deciding factors for ensuing RSA duringC. trachomatis-infection. Increased burden of MDR bacterial infections; reflection from an antibiogram of ICUs of a tertiary care hospital
Conclusions: A substantial and alarming MDR rate was observed in our study. Furthermore, our findings demonstrated a potential interest in developing an ICU-specific antibiogram that is informative to clinicians in their clinical decision-making related to antibiotic therapy. Epidemiology and resistance profiles of Enterobacterales in a tertiary care hospital in Lebanon: a 4-year retrospective study
Conclusions: This study identified the predominance ofE. coli among Enterobacterales in Lebanese patients, with the urinary tract being the most common site of infection and underlined the high rates of AMR in Enterobacterales in Lebanon. (Source: The Journal of Infection in Developing Countries)

Diagnostic value of loop-mediated isothermal amplification in detecting lower respiratory pathogens
Conclusions: LAMP can detect more pathogenic bacteria, notablyHaemophilus influenza, Methicillin-resistantStaphylococcus aureus, and atypical pathogens in patients with clinically common pulmonary disorders combined with LRTI. LAMP may provide etiological evidence to guide the clinical use of antibiotics in primary hospitals. (Source: The Journal of Infection in Developing Countries)

How has the COVID-19 pandemic affected our rheumatology patients using biological/targeted DMARDs?
Conclusions: It was shown that approximately 1/5 of iRMD patients using b/tsDMARDs delayed their treatment due to the fear of COVID-19 in the first three months of the pandemic process. However, with good communication with the patients, b/tsDMARD treatment was restarted and the 12-month drug retention status was quite high. (Source: The Journal of Infection in Developing Countries)

Increase in veterinary prescriptions of azithromycin during the COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil
Conclusions: During the pandemic, there was no animal health situation in Brazil that required the use of this antibiotic. Veterinary prescriptions may have been an instrument for human access to azithromycin for the treatment of COVID-19. Stricter enforcement policies are needed to address this problem to avoid antimicrobial resistance. (Source: The Journal of Infection in Developing Countries)

Laboratory associated zoonotic parasitic infections: a review of main agents and biosecurity measures
Laboratory workers are exposed to the risk of acquiring infections due to the manipulation of infectious materials. The biological hazard for researchers is seven times higher when compared with hospital and public health laboratory workers. Despite the implementation of standardized practices to control infections, multiple cases of Laboratory Associated Infections (LAIs) usually go unreported. There has been a lack of comprehensive epidemiological data regarding the situation of LAIs for parasitic zoonosis and besides, the available sources are not completely updated. Since most accounts of laboratory infections are orga...
