Altered Ulnar Variance With Full-Body Weight-bearing During Handstands With Upper Extremity Weight-bearing CT
Ulnar variance (UV) is a radiographic measurement relating the articular surface heights of the distal radius and ulna. Abnormal UV increases the risk for wrist pathology; however, it only provides a static measurement of an inherently dynamic bony relationship that changes with wrist position and loading. The purpose of this study was to investigate how full-body weight-bearing affects UV using weight-bearing computed tomography (WBCT). (Source: The Journal of Hand Surgery)

Evaluating Factors Associated With Patient-Perceived Applicability of the QuickDASH Survey in Reflecting Their Goals of Care Prior to Hand Surgery
Patient-reported outcome measures intend to capture patients ’ perspectives on their health status. However, the patient-perceived applicability of many of these patient-reported outcome measures is unknown. We hypothesized that patients experiencing greater upper extremity disability and greater pain interference would be more likely to report that the Qui ck Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand questionnaire (QuickDASH) survey content is responsive to their daily lives and goals in seeking surgical care. The Results of Hook Plate Fixation for Palmar Fracture Dislocation of the Proximal Interphalangeal Joint
This study aimed to present the clinical outcomes of the dorsal plating technique for palmar fracture dislocations of the proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint. This plating technique minimizes dissection and interference with the finger extensor mechanism. (Source: The Journal of Hand Surgery)

The Risk of Early Postoperative Complications Associated With Preoperative Immunosuppression in Patients Undergoing Total Elbow Arthroplasty
Patients considering total elbow arthroplasty (TEA) may be receiving immunosuppressive therapy; however, the relationship between immunosuppressive medications and postoperative complications is not well defined. Our purpose was to assess the relationship between preoperative immunosuppression and short-term complications following TEA. (Source: The Journal of Hand Surgery)

Factors Associated With Concerns the Day After Office Hand Surgery
Pain after minor hand surgery can be misinterpreted as a problem. The sense that something may be wrong intensifies the pain. Some surgeons anticipate these feelings and call patients the evening or day after surgery to guide them through the recovery process. A study of routine, next day, postoperative phone calls can help determine the frequency of concerns and associated factors. We asked: 1) What factors are associated with concern the day after office hand surgery? 2) What factors are associated with pain intensity, satisfaction with care, and patient ’s perceived recovery trajectory the day after office hand surger...

Diagnosis of Ulnar Neuropathy at the Elbow Using Ultrasound — A Comparison to Electrophysiologic Studies
Given the relatively high false negative rate of electrodiagnostic studies (EDX) in patients with clinically diagnosed ulnar neuropathy at the elbow (UNE), we sought to determine whether an alternative objective test could more effectively detect UNE. Additionally, we proposed to determine the relationship between the cross-sectional area (CSA) of the ulnar nerve on ultrasound  (US), EDX, and clinical symptoms. Long-Term Outcomes in Female Patients With  Carpometacarpal Arthroplasty and Metacarpophalangeal Fusion Compared With the Unoperated Side or Carpometacarpal Arthroplasty
This study hypothesizes that MP fusion (MPF) performed at the time of CMC arthroplasty (CMCA) for patients who have moderate-to-severe thenar atrophy, MP hyperextension>30 °, or MP arthritis will have greater long-term pinch strength and improvements in the Quick Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (QuickDASH) score from preoperative values when compared with the unoperated side or those who had CMCA only.
