Anconeus Muscle Transfer to Correct or Prevent Wrist Radial Deviation in Radial and Posterior Interosseous Nerve Injuries
Wrist radial deviation is a possible complication of tendon transfer for restoration of wrist extension in cases of radial nerve paralysis. In posterior interosseous nerve (PIN) injury, this is because of the imbalance caused by the intact extensor carpi radialis longus and paralysis of the extensor carpi ulnaris (ECU). This deformity may also occur following transfer of the pronator teres (PT) to the extensor carpi radialis brevis (ECRB) for radial nerve palsy. To address wrist radial deviation, we propose transferring the anconeus muscle, extended by the intermuscular septum between the ECU and the flexor carpi ulnaris (...

Neurogenic Thoracic Outlet Syndrome: A  Primer for Hand and Peripheral Nerve Surgeons
Neurogenic thoracic outlet syndrome is a complex condition and is commonly misunderstood. Historically, much of this confusion has been because of its grouping with other diagnoses that have little in common other than anatomic location. Modern understanding emphasizes the role of small unmyelinated C type pain and sympathetic fibers. Diagnosis is primarily clinical, after ruling out other common conditions. Hand therapy is usually the first-line treatment with variable success. Local anesthetic, botulinum toxins, or steroid injections can aid in diagnosis and offer short-term relief. Building a Multidisciplinary Clinic Dedicated to Upper-Extremity Limb Loss
Complete care of the patient with upper limb loss mandates a long-term, multifaceted approach. Increased functionality and quality of life require collaborative efforts between the patient ’s surgeon, prosthetist, hand therapists, mental health professionals, and peers. An individual surgeon may find that initiating and maintaining a practice offering total integrated treatment for upper-extremity amputees is a formidable task, but with specific, actionable recommendations, the proc ess can be demystified. Investigation Into the Effects of Intra-Articular Steroid on Post-Traumatic Osteoarthritis in Distal Radius Fractures: A Randomized Controlled Pilot Study
The aim of this prospective, randomized, controlled, double-blinded pilot study was to determine the rates of post-traumatic osteoarthritis and assess joint space width in the presence or absence of a single intra-articular injection of corticosteroid after an acute, intra-articular distal radius fracture (DRF). Complications and Unplanned Reoperation After Thumb Metacarpophalangeal Arthrodesis
Arthrodesis of the metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joint of the thumb is a common procedure to treat arthritis or instability. Studies reporting hardware complications and nonunion rates after thumb MCP joint arthrodesis report on small sample sizes. We aimed to describe the hardware complication rate, the nonunion rate, and the number of thumbs that achieve union among patients undergoing thumb MCP joint arthrodesis. A Fresh Cadaver Study on the Innervation of Brachioradialis and Extensor Carpi Radialis Longus Muscles
Distal nerve transfers have revolutionized peripheral nerve surgery by allowing the transfer of healthy motor nerves to paralyzed ones without causing additional morbidity. Radial nerve branches to the brachialis (Ba), brachioradialis (Br), and extensor carpi radialis longus (ECRL) muscles have not been investigated in fresh cadavers.
