Outcomes Following Repeat Collagenase Treatment of Dupuytren Contracture
Injectable collagenase Clostridium histolyticum has been an effective and well-tolerated nonsurgical treatment option for the management of Dupuytren contracture of the hand. The purpose of this study was to determine the efficacy of collagenase injection and adverse event rate in patients who had undergone previous collagenase treatment. Automating Patient-Reported Outcome Measures Following Hand Surgery
The purpose of this study was to assess the overall response rate of patients receiving electronic patient-reported outcome measures (ePROMs) following hand surgery and to determine the patient characteristics associated with responding. (Source: The Journal of Hand Surgery)

Presentation and Management of the Pediatric Trigger Finger: A Multicenter Retrospective Cohort Study
Pediatric trigger finger (PTF) is an acquired condition that is uncommon and anatomically complex. Currently, the literature is characterized by a small number of retrospective case series with limited sample sizes. This investigation sought to evaluate the presentation, management, and treatment outcomes of PTF in a large, multicenter cohort. (Source: The Journal of Hand Surgery)

Intercarpal Angles on Hand Versus Wrist Films: Are Hand Radiographs Sufficient for Assessing Intercarpal Angles?
Carpal angles traditionally are measured on the lateral projection of a standard wrist series; however, this often necessitates obtaining additional radiographic views resulting in additional radiation exposure and increased cost. We aimed to determine whether carpal angles could be measured accurately on a standard series of hand radiographs when compared to wrist radiographs. (Source: The Journal of Hand Surgery)

An Analysis of Gender Diversity in Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery Webinars
Some female upper extremity (UE) surgeons face unique barriers to participation at in-person academic and professional society meetings due to disparate childcare and household duties relative to male surgeons. Webinars may alleviate some of this travel burden and allow for more balanced participation. Our purpose was to evaluate gender diversity within academic webinars with a focus on UE surgery. Is Pain in the Uninjured Arm Associated With Unhelpful Thoughts and Distress Regarding Symptoms During Recovery From Upper-Extremity Injury?
During recovery from upper-extremity injury, patients sometimes express concerns regarding pain associated with increased use of the uninjured limb. Concerns about discomfort associated with increased use may represent a manifestation of unhelpful thoughts such as catastrophic thinking or kinesiophobia. We asked the following questions: (1) Among people recovering from an isolated unilateral upper-extremity injury, is pain intensity in the uninjured arm associated with unhelpful thoughts and feelings of distress regarding symptoms, accounting for other factors? (2) Is pain intensity in the injured extremity, magnitude of c...

Are Patient-Reported Outcome Measures for Distal Radius Fractures Validated for Spanish and Culture? A Systematic Review
Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are used commonly to assess function to direct treatment and evaluate outcomes for patients with distal radius fractures. Most PROMs have been developed and validated in English with minimal report of the demographics of patients studied. The validity of applying these PROMs among Spanish-speaking patients is unknown. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the quality and psychometric properties of Spanish-language adaptations of PROMs for distal radius fractures. (Source: The Journal of Hand Surgery)

Misdiagnosis in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis
The symptoms of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) can mimic those of compressive neuropathies, such as carpal and cubital tunnel syndromes, especially early in a patient ’s clinical course. We surveyed members of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and found that 11% of active and retired members have performed nerve decompression surgeries on patients later diagnosed with ALS. Hand surgeons are commonly the first providers to evaluate patients with undia gnosed ALS. As such, it is important to be aware of the history, signs, and symptoms of ALS to provide an accurate diagnosis and prevent unnecessary morbidit...

The Use and Downstream Associations of Magnetic Resonance Imaging for Lateral Epicondylitis
Low-value imaging is associated with wasteful health care spending and patient harm. The routine use of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for the work-up of lateral epicondylitis is an example of low-value imaging. As such, our aim was to investigate the use of MRIs ordered for lateral epicondylitis, the characteristics of those undergoing an MRI, and the downstream associations of MRI with other care. Short-Term Patient Outcomes after Placement of an Internal Joint Stabilizer for Terrible Triad Injuries: A Multicenter Study
The purpose of this study was to assess the functional and patient-reported outcomes after the use of the internal joint stabilizer (IJS) for unstable terrible triad injuries. Specifically, we sought to determine our complication rate and the impact of complications on patient outcomes. (Source: The Journal of Hand Surgery)
