Patient Perspectives on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Thumb, Hand, or Wrist Pain and Function: A Survey of 98 Patients
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is an established option to improve pain and function for many orthopedic conditions. Our purpose was to obtain patient perspectives regarding CBT for thumb, hand, or wrist pain and function. (Source: The Journal of Hand Surgery)

Eponyms of Upper Extremity Surgical Approaches: A Historical Perspective
Numerous eponymous surgical approaches are used in the treatment of upper extremity pathology, especially in the trauma setting. Knowledge of anatomy and planes is critical to maximize visualization, achieve anatomic reduction, and avoid iatrogenic injury to critical neurovascular structures. Understanding the history of these commonly used eponymous upper extremity approaches (Kaplan, Kocher, Boyd, Thompson, and Henry) provides a humanistic perspective of each of these surgeons' narratives, which shaped their description of anatomic approaches that have forever changed the course of hand and upper extremity surgeries, pro...

Evaluation of Online Artificial Intelligence-Generated Information on Common Hand Procedures
The purpose of this study was to analyze the quality and readability of the information generated by an online artificial intelligence (AI) platform regarding 4 common hand surgeries and to compare AI-generated responses to those provided in the informational articles published by the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH) HandCare website. Comparative Outcomes of Anterior and Posterior Plating for Distal-Third Humerus Shaft Fractures
When treating distal-third humerus shaft fractures (HSFs) surgically, the optimal approach for plating is controversial. We conducted a retrospective multicenter study to investigate and compare the clinical outcomes of anterior and posterior plating in distal-third HSFs and the incidence of complications including iatrogenic radial nerve palsy. The Effect of an Intraoperative Real-Time Counter on Radiation Exposure Events During Operative Treatment of Distal Radius Fractures
Occupational radiation exposure can have adverse health consequences for surgeons. The purpose of this study was to determine if utilization of an intraoperative, real-time radiograph counter results in decreased radiation exposure events (REEs) during open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) of distal radius fractures (DRFs). Ongoing Challenges With Price Transparency in Hospital Charges for Hand Procedures
In 2020, the Centers for Medicare& Medicaid Services issued a historic rule on price transparency that aimed to better inform Americans about their health care costs by requiring hospitals to publicly provide pricing information on their items and services. In this review article, we describe the current gaps in transparency that persist after the implementation of the rule, from incomplete pricing files to noncompliance despite the issuance of monetary penalties by Centers for Medicare& Medicaid Services. Reply to “Diagnosing Mild to Moderate Idiopathic Median Neuropathy at the Carpal Tunnel”
We read, with interest, the letter authored by Ring and Teunis regarding our article “Correlation of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome 6 Score and Physical Exam Maneuvers With Electrodiagnostic Test Severity in Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: A Blinded Prospective Cohort Study.” In the letter, it is stipulated that there is a strong association of electrodiagnostic study severity with CTS-6 score above grade 4 (moderate/severe) but no association with less severe neuropathy. The above assertion is based on an analysis using splines and the means provided in the manuscript. (Source: The Journal of Hand Surgery)

Diagnosing Mild to Moderate Idiopathic Median Neuropathy at the Carpal Tunnel
When idiopathic median neuropathy at the carpal tunnel (IMNCT) is severe, the diagnosis is straightforward using signs and symptoms (carpal tunnel syndrome) that are objective, such as thenar atrophy, palmar abduction weakness, or diminished sensibility. (Source: The Journal of Hand Surgery)

In the article by Lemos et  al in the July 2023 issue of The Journal of Hand Surgery (“Are Patient-Reported Outcome Measures for Distal Radius Fractures Validated for Spanish and Culture? A Systematic Review”, Vol. 48, No. 7, p. 673-682), there was an error in the title. It should have read “Are Patient-Reported Outcom e Measures for Distal Radius Fractures Validated for Spanish Language and Culture? A Systematic Review” (“Language” was omitted incorrectly). The online version of the article has been updated. (Source: The Journal of Hand Surgery)
