Accelerometer Use to Measure Physical Activity in Older Adults With Coronary Artery Disease: An Integrative Review
CONCLUSIONS: On the basis of data synthesis and previous study results, triaxial research-grade accelerometers, waist/hip placement, and a 5- to 7-day monitoring period are recommended for measuring physical activity in older adults with CAD. However, the study purpose, device and participant characteristics, and physical activity outcomes of interest should be considered during device selection.PMID:37816084 | DOI:10.1097/JCN.0000000000000959 (Source: The Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing)

Effects of Meditation Intervention on Self-management in Adult Patients With Type 2 Diabetes: A Systematic Literature Review and Meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Mindfulness-based meditation reduced hemoglobin A 1c levels in adult patients with type 2 diabetes but did not consistently improve other types of self-management in a few studies examined. This may imply the need for additional intervention components to improve different types of self-management. Further studies are needed to examine the effects of different types of meditations with additional components on different types of self-management.PMID:37816085 | DOI:10.1097/JCN.0000000000000973 (Source: The Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing)

Efficacy of Robots-Assisted Therapy in Patients With Stroke: A Meta-analysis Update
CONCLUSIONS: Robot-assisted therapy seems to improve the quality of mobility and reduce balance disturbances and pain for patients with stroke. These findings will help develop advanced rehabilitation robots and could improve health outcomes by facilitating health services for healthcare providers and patients with stroke.PMID:37816087 | DOI:10.1097/JCN.0000000000000945 (Source: The Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing)

The Effects of Exercise on Telomere Length in Persons With Heart Failure
CONCLUSIONS: The association between telomere length and IL-1β suggests a relationship between inflammation and cellular aging. Moderate-intensity exercise may help maintain cellular functions. Further research is needed to examine the effects on outcomes in persons with HF.PMID:37801568 | DOI:10.1097/JCN.0000000000001044 (Source: The Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing)

Agreement of Computerized QT and QTc Interval Measurements Between Both Bedside and Expert Nurses Using Electronic Calipers
CONCLUSION: Computerized QT/QTc measurements calculated by bedside monitor software and measurements performed by nurses were in close agreement; statistically significant differences were found, but differences were less than 20 milliseconds (on-half of a small box), indicating no clinical significance. Computerized measurements may be a suitable alternative to nurse-measured QT/QTc. This could reduce inaccuracies and nurse burden while increasing adherence to practice recommendations. Further research comparing computerized QT/QTc from bedside monitoring to standard 12-lead electrocardiogram in a larger sample, including...

Concurrent Medication Adherence in Hypertensive Patients With High-Risk Comorbidities
CONCLUSIONS: We identified 3 groups based on their concurrent medication adherence. Our results indicated that the relationship of the number of high-risk comorbidities with the concurrent medication adherence group was inconsistent.PMID:37787712 | DOI:10.1097/JCN.0000000000001041 (Source: The Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing)

Health Literacy and Perceived Control: Intermediary Factors in the Relationship Between Race and Cardiovascular Disease Risk in Incarcerated Men in the United States
CONCLUSION: Future CVD risk reduction interventions in incarcerated men, specifically Black incarcerated men, should include goals of improving health literacy and perceived control as modifiable risk factors.PMID:37787727 | DOI:10.1097/JCN.0000000000001022 (Source: The Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing)

Physical Symptoms, Depressive Symptoms, and Quality of Life in Patients With Heart Failure: Cluster Analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Patients with HF were clearly divided into 2 clusters based on physical HF symptoms and depressive symptoms, which were associated with QOL. Clinicians should assess these symptoms to improve patient outcomes.PMID:37787730 | DOI:10.1097/JCN.0000000000001043 (Source: The Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing)

Sensitivity and Specificity of Pulse Oximetry for Identification of Peripheral Artery Disease: A Systematic Review
CONCLUSIONS: There is currently inadequate evidence to support the use of pulse oximetry for identifying PAD. Current evidence suggests that pulse oximetry has low levels of sensitivity and is therefore likely to miss PAD when it is present.PMID:37787731 | DOI:10.1097/JCN.0000000000001030 (Source: The Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing)
