Trends in Emergency Department Admissions Due to Renal Colic in the Pediatric Population: A Multicenter Study

To ASLO or Not to ASLO: Utility of the ASLO Test in Dermatology
CONCLUSIONS: Although the applicability of ASLO for the spectrum of dermatological diseases remains unclear, our results enhance the practical relevance of the test. We showed a higher prevalence of positive ASLO tests in psoriasis and erythema nodosum cases and a lower prevalence in vasculitis. Notably, ASLO was positive in all psoriasis subtypes, suggesting high utility of the test for psoriasis.PMID:38616666 (Source: The Israel Medical Association Journal)

Exploring the Link Between Ankylosing Spondylitis and Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Retrospective Cohort Study
CONCLUSIONS: AS patients exhibit a markedly increased risk of developing IBD. These findings advocate for heightened clinical vigilance for IBD symptoms in AS patients and suggest the need for a multidisciplinary approach to patient care. Further research into the shared pathogenic pathways is needed to develop personalized treatment strategies and improve patient management.PMID:38616667 (Source: The Israel Medical Association Journal)

Group A Streptococcus Carriage in Adults in Southern Israel: A Prospective Study
CONCLUSIONS: Being an ultra-Orthodox Jew was the single variable associated with a GAS carriage, which may be related to having many children at home and living in overcrowded areas. Primary care physicians in Israel should recognize this situation when examining patients with sore throats, mainly ultra-Orthodox Jews.PMID:38616668 (Source: The Israel Medical Association Journal)

Diagnostic Yield of head Computed Tomography in Patients with Syncope: Sex Differences
CONCLUSIONS: Age had a more significant impact on diagnostic yield of syncope than head CT. The use of a head CT scan as a routine diagnosis tool in patients with syncope is unjustifiable unless there is an indication based on medical history or physical examination.PMID:38616670 (Source: The Israel Medical Association Journal)

Amyloid Typing in Cardiac Amyloidosis Using Western Blotting
CONCLUSIONS: WB-based amyloid typing method is cheaper and more readily available than the complex and expensive gold standard techniques such as MS analysis or immunoelectron microscopy. Notably, it is more sensitive and specific than the commonly used immunohistochemical techniques and may provide an accessible diagnostic service to patients with amyloidosis in Israel.PMID:38493325 (Source: The Israel Medical Association Journal)
