Difference in plaque characteristics of coronary culprit lesions in a cohort of Egyptian patients presented with acute coronary syndrome and stable coronary artery disease: An optical coherence tomography study
ConclusionThe current FD-OCT study demonstrated the differences of plaque morphology and identified distinct lesion characteristics between patients with ACS and those with SCAD. These findings could explain the clinical presentation of patients in both groups. (Source: The Egyptian Heart Journal)

Assessment of left and right atrial geometrical changes in patients with stable coronary artery disease: Left and right atrial strain and strain rate imaging study
ConclusionIn patients with CAD and normal EF, borderline E/e′ ratio and normal atrial size, there are decreased LA and RA systolic S and SR parameters with no effect on atrial volumes or distensibility. Accordingly, this could prove that atrial wall deformation occurs early in CAD even before any changes in atrial volumes or dimensions. (Source: The Egyptian Heart Journal)

Prevention of contrast induced nephropathy by ischemic preconditioning in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary angiography
ConclusionsThe current study showed that remote ischemic preconditioning plays an important role in prevention of CIN in patients undergoing PCI with renal impairment GFR < 60 ml/min. The amount of contrast, decreased LVEF, and presence of LAD significant lesion were significant risk factors for developing of CIN and these subgroups benefited from application of ischemic preconditioning. Impact of elevated glycosylated hemoglobin on hospital outcome and 1 year survival of primary isolated coronary artery bypass grafting patients
ConclusionsThis study showed that HbA1c is a good predictor of in-hospital morbidity. It worth devoting time and effort to decrease HbA1c level below 7% to decrease possible postoperative complications. (Source: The Egyptian Heart Journal)

Prevalence and characteristics of tricuspid valve endocarditis among patients presented to Ain Shams Hospital echocardiography lab; one year study
ConclusionThe incidence of TV IE is increasing with male gender predominance, and affects mainly young age groups. TV IE represented 0.6% of all patients, and 17.7% of IE cases. The main echocardiographic feature of TV IE is vegetations which were characterized by being large, highly mobile, and affecting mainly anterior TV leaflet. The main echocardiographic complication is severe TR, but abscess formation was infrequent. (Source: The Egyptian Heart Journal)

Continuous infusion of furosemide versus intermittent boluses in acute decompensated heart failure: Effect on thoracic fluid content
ConclusionsWe concluded that continuous furosemide infusion in ADHF might cause greater weight loss and more decrease in TFC with no symptomatic improvement and possibly with more nephrotoxic effect. (Source: The Egyptian Heart Journal)

Clinical safety profile of ticagrelor compared to clopidogrel in 1208 patients: Real world evidence
ConclusionIn the real world settings, patients undergoing PCI treated with ticagrelor showed similar safety profile compared to clopidogrel but with increase in minor bleeding rate. The observed results were in alignment with PLATO clinical trial. (Source: The Egyptian Heart Journal)
