Impact of fractional flow reserve on decision-making in daily clinical practice: A single center experience in Egypt
ConclusionMismatches between visually- and FFR- estimated significance of intermediate coronary stenosis are frequently encountered across a wide spectrum of clinical presentations. FFR leads to a change in decision for coronary intervention. The clinical and cost implications of such changes-in areas with limited resources- needs further evaluation. Waist height ratio and waist circumference in relation to hypertension, Framingham risk score in hospitalized elderly Egyptians
ConclusionWHtR and WC are strong risk factors for hypertension and cardiovascular events in Egyptian elderly female patients. WHtR is the best anthropometric predictor for hypertension and cardiovascular events in male patients. (Source: The Egyptian Heart Journal)

Assessment of left ventricular regional wall motion abnormalities using regional time-volume curves obtained by real time three-dimensional echocardiography
ConclusionThree-dimensional echocardiography is an easy, non-invasive and objective tool to detect regional wall motion abnormalities in ischemic patients. It shows comparable results with conventional 2D images with the advantage of quantitative assessment of regional myocardial function. (Source: The Egyptian Heart Journal)

Tissue characterization of non-culprit intermediate coronary lesions in non ST elevation acute coronary syndromes
ConclusionsA higher lipidic content in lesions of culprit vessels, while the lesions of non-culprit vessels were more calcific. Higher calcific content of proximal more than distal lesions was defined as well. (Source: The Egyptian Heart Journal)

Transradial artery approach in STEMI patients reperfused early and late by either primary PCI or pharmaco-invasive approach
In conclusion, it is safe and effective to use TRA in STEMI patients who reperfused by either early or late PPCI or PI. We recommend PI for STEMI patients with delay presentation if PPCI is not available. (Source: The Egyptian Heart Journal)

Double right coronary artery detected on coronary computed tomography angiography: A case report
Publication date: March 2018Source: The Egyptian Heart Journal, Volume 70, Issue 1Author(s): Osman Mohamed Elfadil, Yahya Mohamed Al Wahshi, Ahmed Al ShamakhiAbstractDouble right coronary artery is a relatively rare coronary anomaly. In this case report we aim to increase awareness of the importance of recognizing such anomaly and a brief literature review of similar cases and possible high risk features. Computed Tomography is well recognized modality to detect coronary anomaly and in our case we demonstrated this as well. (Source: The Egyptian Heart Journal)

Bleeding and asymptomatic overdose in patients under Vitamin K antagonist therapy: Frequency and risk factors
ConclusionMost of the risk factors identified in our study seem to be related to patients lack of information and education. These results highlight the importance of creating a therapeutic patient education program. (Source: The Egyptian Heart Journal)

Increased arterial stiffness in rheumatoid arthritis and Its relation to disease activity: A cross sectional study
ConclusionRA is associated with increased arterial stiffness, a well-recognized marker of cardiovascular risk. This is attributed to the inflammatory nature of the disease. It seems that the most important factors determining stiffness are patients' age and duration of illness. (Source: The Egyptian Heart Journal)

Cardiovascular risk of circulating endotoxin level in prevalent hemodialysis patients
ConclusionAcute increase in post dialytic circulating endotoxin level in prevalent HD patients may be associated with both left ventricular systolic and diastolic dysfunction and that attempts to reduce endotoxin level may have a positive impact on cardiovascular complications in HD Patients. Stent boost enhancement compared to intravascular ultrasound in the evaluation of stent expansion in elective percutaneous coronary interventions
ConclusionsStentBoost enhancement has superior correlations for stent expansion measured by IVUS when compared with QCA. SB enhancement improved stent visualization and identification of stent underexpansion to guide stent postdilatation. (Source: The Egyptian Heart Journal)

Incidence and predictors of bleeding among Egyptian patients presenting with acute coronary syndrome: Using CRUSADE risk score
ConclusionRisk of bleeding can be evaluated using a simple risk score in both STEMI & NSTEMI patients, and across anti-coagulant strategies, providing important prognostic information. Variability in the rates of bleeding is likely based on differences in baseline characteristics, comorbidities, and invasive treatment strategies rather than specific anti-coagulation regimens. Patients at highest risk of bleeding are also at highest risk of ischaemia and thrombotic complications. Thus higher risk patients need a more careful treatment approach to maximize the efficacy of therapy and to reduce thrombotic risk while reducing ...
