High flow nasal cannula versus noninvasive ventilation in the treatment of acute hypercapnic respiratory failure: A systematic review and meta ‐analysis
We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to determine if high-flow nasal cannula can be utilised when managing patients with acute hypercapnic respiratory failure, as opposed to noninvasive ventilation which is conventionally used in this regard. We found no statistically significant differences between the two modalities in the correction of arterial blood gases, intubation rates, mortality rates, and treatment switch. AbstractChronic obstructive pulmonary disease can lead to acute hypercapnic respiratory failure (AHRF), often treated using noninvasive ventilation (NIV). Emerging research suggests the potential ...

Interactive effect of booster vaccination and vitamin D status on antibody production of Omicron variant ‐infected adults: A real‐world cohort study
ConclusionsBooster vaccination and non-VDD status may have an interactive boosting effect on IgG production of Omicron variant-infected adults. Further randomized clinical trials may be needed to determine whether booster vaccination combined with VDD correction improves the humoral immunity to Omicron variants. Characteristics and risk factors for advanced lung cancer with pulmonary embolism: A cross ‐sectional, case–control study
ConclusionOur study provides valuable insights into the epidemiology and prognosis of PE in lung cancer patients and suggests that a poor ECOG PS, which has not been previously reported, is an independent risk factor for PE. (Source: The Clinical Respiratory Journal)

Investigating the role of uric acid and uric acid ‐to‐creatinine ratio as a predictive factor of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease exacerbation in 2019
ConclusionUric acid and UCR could be invaluable predictors of frequent exacerbation and the acute phase of COPD. Therefore, they might be applicable in evaluating the severity and progress of the disease. (Source: The Clinical Respiratory Journal)

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation in immunocompromised patients with acute respiratory failure: A retrospective cohort study
ConclusionsIn-hospital mortality has remained high in ECMO-treated immunocompromised patients with acute respiratory failure. Intubated ECMO and AKI receiving CRRT during ECMO treatment may predict ECMO failure in immunocompromised patients with ARF. A primarily awake ECMO strategy seems feasible in some selected immunocompromised patients. (Source: The Clinical Respiratory Journal)

Efficacy of treatment with N ‐acetylcysteine inhalation for AECOPD: A propensity‐score‐matched cohort study
ConclusionNAC inhalation is associated with an improved clinical outcome. A further study should be conducted to confirm the clinical usefulness of NAC inhalation in AECOPD patients. (Source: The Clinical Respiratory Journal)

Primary mediastinal choriocarcinoma in an 18 ‐year‐old male with pulmonary and brain metastasis: A case report
This was an extremely rare case of the primary anterior mediastinal choriocarcinoma that occurred in an 18-year-old man with multiple metastases of the lung and brain. At present, there are no effective treatment options for primary mediastinal choriocarcinoma. The patient in this case used a conventional EP protocol (etoposide, cisplatin). We hope to provide valuable experience in treating such patients. AbstractPrimary mediastinal choriocarcinoma, also known as non-pregnant choriocarcinoma, is a rare malignancy unrelated to pregnancy, with a higher incidence in males. And primary mediastinal choriocarcinoma is mostly ass...

Serum iron levels in tuberculosis patients and household contacts and its association with natural resistance ‐associated macrophage protein 1 polymorphism and expression
ConclusionComparing the TB case to the household contacts group, decreased serum Fe levels were discovered in the TB case group. This study also shows a correlation ofNRAMP1 gene expression to Fe levels in TB patients and household contacts and describes that TB may lead to decreased Fe levels by downregulatingNRAMP1 expression. TRIM11 promotes cell proliferation of non ‐small cell lung cancer through the inhibition of ferroptosis by AMPK
This study investigates the role of TRIM11 gene in NSCLC and its underlying mechanism. NSCLC patients were recruited from our hospital and showed upregulated TRIM11 mRNA and protein expressions. Patients with high TRIM11 expression had lower survival rates. TRIM11 gene was found to promote cell proliferation and reduce ROS-induced ferroptosis in NSCLC. Additionally, TRIM11 gene induced AMPK expression and its regulation affected TRIM11's effects on cell proliferation and ferroptosis in NSCLC. IP analysis revealed that TRIM11 protein interacted with AMPK protein in NSCLC. These data confirmed that TRIM11 promotes cell proli...
