Availability and Readability Level of Online Patient Education Materials Provided by Cleft Lip and Palate Teams
CONCLUSION: Online cleft lip and palate patient education material provided by ACPA craniofacial teams were more available in English than in Spanish. Both sets of materials demonstrated readability levels above the recommended 6th-7th grade. Refining readability is associated with lowered healthcare costs and increased patient satisfaction.PMID:37926980 | DOI:10.1177/10556656231213170 (Source: The Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Journal)

Pharyngeal Airway Changes Following Mandibular Distraction Osteogenesis as Evaluated with Laryngoscopy
CONCLUSION: Following MDO, RS patients with TBAO have an approximate doubling of oropharyngeal width and an improvement in laryngoscopic grade. These findings likely contribute to improved oxygenation, OAHI and ease of intubation.PMID:37915226 | DOI:10.1177/10556656231204517 (Source: The Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Journal)

Cultural Beliefs on Cleft lip and/or Cleft Palate and Their Implications on Management: A Systematic Review
CONCLUSION: Cultural beliefs are the main cause of misconceptions surrounding a cleft lip and/or cleft palate. There is also a need for public health care providers' intervention to educate society about the natural causes and ease of management, thereby increasing opportunities for patients substantially.PMID:37899714 | DOI:10.1177/10556656231209823 (Source: The Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Journal)

LeFort I Horizontal Osteotomy: Defining the Feasibility of the "High Osteotomy"
CONCLUSIONS: A "high" osteotomy is not consistently possible due to the relationship between the superior alar crease and the inferior turbinate.PMID:37885216 | DOI:10.1177/10556656231202595 (Source: The Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Journal)

Whole Exome Sequencing Identifies Damaging Variants in Indonesians with Clefts
CONCLUSIONS: Our study provides additional evidence for the role of TULP4, SOS1, MTHFD1L and MMACHC genes in nsOFC development. This is the first time MMACHC is implicated in nsOFC development in humans.PMID:37876262 | DOI:10.1177/10556656231210085 (Source: The Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Journal)

Craniometric and Aesthetic Outcomes in Craniosynostosis Surgery: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
CONCLUSIONS: There is no difference in CI outcomes between CVR and less invasive procedures. The majority of literature comparing craniometric and aesthetic outcomes between CVR and less invasive procedures shows equivocal results for sagittal synostosis. However, the heterogeneity of data for other craniosynostoses did not allow meta-analysis.PMID:37859464 | DOI:10.1177/10556656231204506 (Source: The Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Journal)
