Radiographic Assessment of Cleft Alveolar Bone Defects: A Preliminary Comparison of Periapical and Cone Beam Computed Tomography Images
CONCLUSIONS: CBCT and PA readings demonstrated an overall low rate of agreement in the assessment of cleft alveolar bone. This investigation suggests that PA radiographs have lower sensitivity in detecting poor bone grafting outcomes.PMID:38105594 | DOI:10.1177/10556656231220507 (Source: The Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Journal)

Analysis of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea in Craniofacial Microsomia Based on Polysomnography
CONCLUSIONS: Patients with CFM have a higher incidence of OSA based on PSG in type II and type III patients. The incidence of OSA did not correlate positively with the severity of CFM, with type III patients having certain particularities.PMID:38105178 | DOI:10.1177/10556656231221654 (Source: The Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Journal)

Assessment of Multiple Dimensions of Psychological Well-Being in Swiss Youth Born with a Unilateral Cleft Lip and Palate
CONCLUSIONS: Youths with UCLP show globally similar psychological well-being as matched peers. We observed some vulnerabilities but also protective factors, which support the need for psychological perspective within multidisciplinary care. The relationships between dimensions suggest specific targets that may have an impact in context of intervention.PMID:38093407 | DOI:10.1177/10556656231219418 (Source: The Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Journal)

Multidisciplinary Aesthetic Management of a Dentition in a Patient with Cleft Lip and Palate with a High Smile Line: A Clinical Report
In this report, we look at a complex case of a patient with a unilateral cleft lip and palate which required a multidisciplinary approach involving crown lengthening, extraction of a maxillary right central incisor and fabrication of a 4-unit fixed partial denture to replace this tooth and the adjacent absent maxillary right lateral incisor with use of gingival porcelain in order to improve the aesthetics of the patient's smile.PMID:38092679 | DOI:10.1177/10556656231219581 (Source: The Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Journal)

Evaluation of Long-Term Outcomes of Transverse Facial Cleft Repair
CONCLUSIONS: No significant long-term commissural migration was observed after transverse facial cleft repair with simple linear commissuroplasty and linear skin closure. Deliberate positioning of the new oral commissure, proper myoplasty, and meticulous skin closure with minimal scar burden can be considered key procedures for successful transverse cleft repair.PMID:38092680 | DOI:10.1177/10556656231207205 (Source: The Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Journal)

Correlation Between Presurgical Alveolar Cleft Volume Measured by Simulation Software Using CBCT and Actual Bone Volume Used for Grafting
CONCLUSIONS: There was significantly positive correlation between two measuring methods. CBCT method overestimated actual bone graft volume. Surgeons may harvest alveolar bone grafts ranging from 82% to 100% of CBCT volume.PMID:38092683 | DOI:10.1177/10556656231220502 (Source: The Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Journal)

Failure of Mandibular Distraction Osteogenesis in Klippel- Feil Syndrome- 4: A Case Report of a Rare Syndromic Robin Sequence
We report a novel case of a 1- month-old girl with known KFS4 and Robin Sequence (RS). At 2 months old, she underwent bilateral mandibular distraction osteogenesis to correct significant airway obstruction. Despite adequate mandibular advancement, the patient failed extubation twice and eventually required a tracheostomy. Due to the multiple anomalies present in KFS4, mandibular distraction osteogenesis may have a decreased likelihood of surgical success.PMID:38092684 | DOI:10.1177/10556656231220852 (Source: The Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Journal)

Parents' Perception of the Benefit of Receiving a Patient Information Leaflet Prior to Attending a Craniofacial Multidisciplinary Team Appointment
CONCLUSIONS: A leaflet may be helpful for parents when preparing for their child's MDT appointment. However, some parents may need additional support and information related to their child's treatment pathway.PMID:38092729 | DOI:10.1177/10556656231219579 (Source: The Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Journal)

Do Race and Socioeconomic Status Affect Date of Initial Presentation and Repair of Patients with Cleft lip  ± Palate and Head Shape Conditions?
CONCLUSIONS: Race and SES may play an important role in the delay of first presentation to plastic surgery clinic and subsequent repair for these patient populations. Further educational efforts must be provided to ensure equitable care. This single institutional study may serve to encourage other academic centers to analyze the timing of care for our pediatric patients.PMID:38073056 | DOI:10.1177/10556656231219417 (Source: The Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Journal)
