Nationwide standardization of minimally invasive right hemicolectomy for colon cancer and development and validation of a video-based competency assessment tool (the Right study)
CONCLUSION: Nationwide consensus on a standardized and optimized technique of MIRH was reached. The CAT developed showed excellent interrater reliability. These achievements are crucial steps to an ongoing nationwide quality improvement project (the Right study).PMID:38103184 | DOI:10.1093/bjs/znad404 (Source: The British Journal of Surgery)

Impact of fatigue in surgeons on performance and patient outcome: systematic review
CONCLUSION: Almost half of simulator studies, along with one-third of real-life studies, consistently report negative effects of fatigue, highlighting a significant concern. The discrepancy between simulator/real-life studies may be explained by heightened motivation and effort investment in real-life studies. Currently, published fatigue and outcome measures, especially in real-life studies, are insufficient to fully define the impact of fatigue on surgical outcomes due to the absence of direct fatigue measures and crude, post-hoc outcome measures.PMID:38097353 | DOI:10.1093/bjs/znad397 (Source: The British Journal of Surgery)

Costs of endovascular and open repair of thoracic aortic aneurysms
CONCLUSIONS: Surgical procedure costs were higher for TEVAR due to device costs. Total in-hospital costs were higher for OSR due to longer hospital and critical care stay. Follow-up costs over 12 months were slightly higher for TEVAR due to hospital readmissions.PMID:38091972 | DOI:10.1093/bjs/znad378 (Source: The British Journal of Surgery)
