Subcortico-Cortical Dysconnectivity in ADHD: A Voxel-Wise Mega-Analysis Across Multiple Cohorts
CONCLUSIONS: The findings from this large-scale mega-analysis support established links with subcortico-cortical circuits, which were robust to potential confounders. However, effect sizes were small, and it seems likely that resting-state subcortico-cortical connectivity can capture only a fraction of the complex pathophysiology of ADHD.PMID:38476041 | DOI:10.1176/appi.ajp.20230026 (Source: The American Journal of Psychiatry)

Sex-Specific Distributed White Matter Microarchitectural Alterations in Preadolescent Youths With Anxiety Disorders: A Mega-Analytic Study
CONCLUSIONS: In addition to confirming male-specific anxiety disorder-related reductions in UF FA, the results demonstrate that anxiety disorders in boys and not girls are associated with broadly distributed WM alterations across the brain. These findings support further studies focused on understanding the extent to which WM alterations in boys with anxiety disorders are involved in pathophysiological processes that mediate anxiety disorders. The findings also suggest the possibility that WM microarchitecture could serve as a novel treatment target for childhood anxiety disorders.PMID:38476042 | DOI:10.1176/appi.ajp.20221...

Durability of Effects of Cognitive Remediation on Cognition and Psychosocial Functioning in Schizophrenia: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Clinical Trials
CONCLUSIONS: Cognitive remediation provides durable improvements in cognition and functioning in schizophrenia. This finding corroborates the notion that cognitive remediation should be implemented more widely in clinical and rehabilitation practice.PMID:38476043 | DOI:10.1176/appi.ajp.20230396 (Source: The American Journal of Psychiatry)

Neuromelanin-Sensitive MRI as Candidate Marker for Treatment Resistance in First-Episode Schizophrenia
CONCLUSIONS: These findings provide further evidence for dopaminergic differences between medication responders and nonresponders and support the potential of NM-MRI as a clinically applicable marker for treatment resistance in schizophrenia.PMID:38476044 | DOI:10.1176/appi.ajp.20220780 (Source: The American Journal of Psychiatry)

Reciprocal Effects Between Negative Parenting and Children's Callous-Unemotional Traits From Mid to Late Childhood
CONCLUSIONS: In mid-to-late childhood, genetic factors strongly influenced the development of CU traits, whereas environmental effects of negative parenting were small. Negative parenting was also relatively unaffected by CU traits. The small reciprocal effects originated mostly from genetic and shared environmental factors. Therefore, repeated intensive interventions addressing multiple risk factors rather than negative parenting alone may be best positioned to support families of children with CU traits across development.PMID:38476045 | DOI:10.1176/appi.ajp.20230208 (Source: The American Journal of Psychiatry)
