Skin Biopsy in Pediatric Oncology/Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation Patients
Abstract: The aim of this study was to review the dermatopathological findings in skin biopsy specimens from pediatric oncology and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation patients over a 20-year period. Three hundred fifty-two skin biopsies from 240 patients were reviewed, and the findings were grouped into 6 categories: index neoplasms, nonindex neoplasms, infections, graft-versus-host disease, other treatment complications, and others. Among the index neoplasms identified on skin biopsy, the most common conditions were Langerhans cell histiocytosis (14 patients) and melanoma (7 patients), with other hematological ma...

Large Cell Neuroendocrine Carcinoma of the Skin/Conjunctiva: A Series of 6 Cases including 1 Combined Case With Squamous Cell Carcinoma
This study sought to reveal the clinicopathologic characteristics of large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC) of the skin/conjunctiva. The retrieved patients included 3 men and 3 women with a median age of 85 (63–95) years. All lesions occurred on the face, including the ears, with a median tumor size of 11.5 (7–65) mm. Lymph node metastasis was observed in 5 (83%) of 6 cases, and distant metastasis was noted in 2 (33%). One patient (17%) who had a 13-mm-sized tumor died of the tumor 13 months after excision. All tumors were mainly located in the dermis, and one of them also exhibited intraepithelial spreading. The ...

Cowden Disease: A Review
Abstract: PTEN hamartoma tumor syndrome (PTHS) includes diseases with germline pathogenic variants in the PTEN gene. Cowden syndrome is included in this syndrome. PTEN (phosphatase and tensin homolog) is a tumor suppressor gene located on chromosome 10q22-23; nearly 60%–90% of pathogenic variants are inherited. Cowden syndrome is a rare autosomic dominant condition, affecting approximately 1/200,000 people worldwide. Patients present benign and, malignant neoplasms in multiple organs, mostly breast and thyroid. The skin is the organ affected most consistently by Cowden disease. It is an autosomal dominant condition, ...

Verrucous Melanoma Presenting as a Cutaneous Horn
Abstract: Verrucous malignant melanoma (MM) is a rare variant of melanoma that often presents diagnostic challenges. This case highlights the unique presentation of verrucous MM underlying a cutaneous horn. It is vital for dermatologists to be aware of this potentially benign-appearing variant to be able to diagnose and treat MM early on. (Source: The American Journal of Dermatopathology)

Blastic Indeterminate Dendritic Cell Tumor Associated With Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukemia
We report a case of multifocal cutaneous blastic indeterminate dendritic cell tumor (BIDCT) in a 75-year-old man with chronic myelomonocytic leukemia showing blastic histiocytoid morphology, positivity for CD1a and S100, and no expression of langerin. We present a literature review on the 11 reported cases of IDCTs/BIDCTs associated with chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMML), including this case. The clinicopathological characteristics have been summarized. The IDCT and CMML cells are clonally related in 4 tested cases. Patients with IDCT/BIDCT associated with CMML seem to have worse clinical outcomes compared with patien...
