In  vitro stress analysis study of different prosthetic options using single posterior implant for management of mandibular unilateral distal extension saddle
Conclusion The conclusions are as follows: (1) maximum strain induced at tooth and implant abutments were in case of side plate design; (2) distribution of micro-strain between the implant and tooth abutment in case of fixed restoration was better than distribution in case of the other two groups. Push-out bond strength of different root canal obturation systems to  root canal dentin
Conclusion The adhesiveness quality to root dentin promoted by newer methacrylate resin-based obturation systems like RealSeal and EndoREZ systems is compromised even when teeth with simple anatomic features were obturated under well-monitored laboratory conditions. (Source: Tanta Dental Journal)

Evaluation of using botulinum toxin (A) in the treatment of  myofacial pain syndrome
Publication date: September 2015 Source:Tanta Dental Journal, Volume 12, Issue 3 Author(s): O.M. Zayed, M.M.S. Khedr, A.A.M. Sadakah, A.E. El-deeb Myofacial pain syndrome (MPS) is a disorder which has become a topic over the past two decades and nowadays .10 patients (9 female & 1 male) complaining of unilateral MPS were injected with botulinum toxin type A(BTX-A) in masseter and temporalis muscles extra orally under electromyographic guidance (EMG) since they are the primary muscles responsible for pain in ear region and temporal headache respectively, which cause limitation of mandibular movement and...

Correlation of hypoxia-inducible factor-1 alpha (HIF-1 α) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expressions with clinico-pathological features of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC)
Publication date: December 2015 Source:Tanta Dental Journal, Volume 12, Supplement 1 Author(s): Heba El-Sayed Mohammed Youssef, Nahed Emad Eldeen Abo-Azma, Eman Mohie Eldeen Megahed Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is a characteristic aggressiv e tumor representing a significant public health threat all over the world. Up to 50–60% of solid tumors may exhibit hypoxic tissue areas that are heterogeneously distributed within the tumor stroma. Hypoxia inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) is a central regulator in the adaptive cellular response to hypoxia; however its role is still uncovered. Vascular endothelial gro...

Age estimation in adult human sound and periodontally affected teeth using tooth cementum annulations
Conclusion TCA is reliable for sound but not for periodontally affected teeth using either LM, PM or PHM. Moreover, PHM is a more accurate microscope for TCA in contrast to LM & PM. Interestingly, a novel regression formula was developed to enable estimating age in periodontally affected teeth by TCA method. (Source: Tanta Dental Journal)

Stress distribution of implant retained obturators using different types of attachments: A three dimensional finite element analysis
The objective of this study was to analyze the stress distribution around dental implants for different designs of implant supported obturator in cases of midline maxillary defect using a 3-dimensional finite element analysis. Methods A model of edentulous patient with midline maxillectomy is transferred to digital (CAD) model using 3D coordinate measuring machine, Finite element models were formed using ABAQUS package, creating 3 models rehabilitated with different designs of implant retained obturator prostheses using different attachment types of dental implants in the alveolar bone on the unaffected side, three impla...

Putative role of epithelial rests of Malassez in alleviation of traumatic occlusion
Conclusion ERM cells appeared to have an important role within the periodontal apparatus. Their diverse ultrastructural features during periodontal deterioration and regeneration would suggest their role in alleviating the injury resulted from induced traumatic occlusion. Assessment of stress distribution around implant fixture with three different crown materials
Conclusions Using softer (lower rigidity) crown material reduces the stresses generated on the jaw bone (cortical and spongy), that it absorbs more energy from the applied load, and transfers less energy to the following parts of the system (implant–abutment complex and bones). Evaluation of upper and lower pharyngeal airway in hypo and hyper divergent Class I, II and III malocclusions in a group of Egyptian patients
Conclusions In all groups hyper-divergent growth had narrower airway than normal and hypo-divergent growth. Class III had wider airway than Class I malocclusion. Class I had wider airway than Class II division 1 malocclusion. Lower pharyngeal airway in class II division 1 had the narrowest width in all groups. Lower pharyngeal airway in class III mandibular prognathism had the widest width in all groups. Males have wider pharyngeal airway than females. (Source: Tanta Dental Journal)
