Retained surgical drain fragments: a systematic review and case report
ConclusionSurgeons should be aware of retained surgical drains as an iatrogenic cause of post-operative morbidity. Contemporary surgical practice should include methods to prevent, identify and manage retained drains and associated complications. (Source: Surgical Practice)

Hemithyroidectomy versus Total Thyroidectomy for Minimally ‐Invasive Follicular Thyroid Carcinoma: Quality of Life and Oncological Outcomes
ConclusionsHemithyroidectomy carried less morbidity, and comparable survival, metastasis, recurrence, and QoL to total thyroidectomy for MI-FTC. Hemithyroidectomy might be considered as a first option in the low-risk subgroup of MI-FTC, however, further research is needed to establish the ideal individualized approach. Should Open Repair be the Choice in Ruptured Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Instead of EVAR (Endovascular Aortic Repair) ‐ Experience in a Tertiary Referral Vascular Centre
ConclusionProtocol driven management with AOB with a multidisciplinary team approach can improve survival and perioperative outcomes in RAAA. In those cases with unfavourable anatomy, open repair should be performed. For those class IIA RAAA, the method of repair should depend on the anatomy, and whether to use AOB should be an individualized decision. In cases of class IIB RAAA, routine use of AOB can improve survival. For classes IIC and III, we would offer open repair with mandatory use of AOB employing a damage control approach. Spontaneous pneumo ‐mediastinum ‐ a benign rarity?
ConclusionSPM is an uncommon disease, mainly affecting the younger age group. Although SPM carries a benign and good clinical outcome, it is essential to exclude other potential life threatening conditions with similar presentations. (Source: Surgical Practice)

Evaluating the Outcomes of Liver ‐first Approach for Liver Metastases due to Colorectal Cancer: A Systematic Review and Meta‐analysis
ConclusionsThe perioperative and long-term outcomes of the liver-first and classical approaches were comparable. Selection of the appropriate approach that will be used for a patient depends on the characteristics of the primary colorectal tumor and the occurrence of liver metastases. Primary hepatic mucosa ‐associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma: Case report and literature review
AbstractPrimary hepatic mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma (MALToma) is a very rare disease and the diagnosis is often only made after histologic examination. To date, there is no consensus on its treatment modalities. In this paper, we report a case of primary hepatic MALToma and literature review of this rare disease. Our patient was a 72-year-old woman who presented with elevated alkaline phosphatase level. She was neither a hepatitis B nor C carrier. The alpha-fetoprotein level was normal. Ultrasound of the abdomen found two hypoechoic liver lesions. Triphasic contrast computed tomography of the liver showed tw...

A Case Study: Same Day Spontaneous Reduction of a Traumatic Infantile Depressed Skull Fracture
AbstractA depressed skull fracture refers to a focal caving of the calvaria. Conservative management in the paediatric population is advised in the absence of brain injury as the deformity will often correct itself as the skull grows over the following months. Herein, we present a rare case of an infantile traumatic depressed skull fracture that spontaneously resolved within 4 hours of the injury. A 9-month-old male presented with a 6mm deep traumatic depressed skull fracture after falling from sofa height. The fracture spontaneously reduced during a crying episode whilst waiting for the CT scan and the subsequent CT Brain...

Ultrasonography increases sensitivity of mammography for diagnosis of multifocal, multicentric breast cancer using 356 whole breast histopathology as a gold standard
CONCLUSIONUsing mammography and ultrasonography for preoperative diagnosis of breast cancer will miss almost half of cases with multifocal multicentric cancers. To achieve curative outcome when performing breast conserving surgery preoperative investigation with only mammography and ultrasonography may be inadequate. (Source: Surgical Practice)
