Association of objectively measured lifting load with low-back pain, stress, and fatigue: A prospective cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: Higher daily lifting loads were associated with higher LBP intensity after work and the following morning. These findings suggest that warehouses should consider the daily lifting loads when organizing warehouse work to prevent development of LBP, eg, using company records to provide a more equal distribution of daily lifting loads between workers.PMID:37930317 | DOI:10.5271/sjweh.4127 (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Work, Environment and Health)

Effects of the Labor Inspection Authority ’s regulatory tools on physician-certified sick leave and employee health in Norwegian home-care services – a cluster randomized controlled trial
Conclusion Labor inspections and guidance-through-workshops had no statistically significant effect on self-reported health and physician-certified sick leave. The results should be interpreted with caution given the low response rate and subsequent attrition, and in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Future studies, in various industries, should further elucidate whether regulatory tools influence employee health and sick leave due to musculoskeletal and mental disorders. by Finnanger Garshol B, Knardahl S, Emberland JS, Skare Ø, Johannessen HA. doi:10.5271/sjweh.4125 (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Work, Environment and Health)

Parkinson ’s disease and occupational exposure to organic solvents in Finland: a nationwide case-control study
Conclusion Our findings imply that PD is unlikely to be related to typical occupational solvent exposure in Finland, but excess risk cannot be ruled out in some highly exposed occupations. by Sallmén M, Burstyn I, Uuksulainen S, Koskinen A, Hublin C, Sainio M. doi:10.5271/sjweh.4124 (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Work, Environment and Health)

Physical exposures in the work environment during pregnancy – a challenge for risk assessment
Pregnant women have been preforming work-related activities during pregnancy since time immemorial, from the traditional hunter-gatherer or forager society to today’s modern world. But ever since our society has been industrialized, exposure patterns for pregnant women have changed dramatically, and they keep changing. This change is due partly to exposure changes overall in the labor market and partly the changes in the gender balance in different occupations. To some extent, women have been protected from the most hazardous occupations, since these mainly have been held by men (1). But active strategies within Europe...
