The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on mental health in Danish school children in 5th to 7th grade
CONCLUSIONS: This study indicates that the Covid-19 pandemic impacted Danish school children differently across sex and grade (age). During Covid-19, mental health tended to be better among the oldest girls and worse among the youngest girls compared with girls before Covid-19. Boys in 6th grade had poorer mental well-being, and boys in 5th grade had fewer conduct problems during Covid-19 compared with before Covid-19.PMID:38380520 | DOI:10.1177/14034948241228907 (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Public Health)

Parental unemployment and educational outcomes in late adolescence: the importance of family cohesion, parental education, and family income in a Norwegian study
CONCLUSIONS: Adolescents with parents outside of the workforce are at higher risk of poorer educational outcomes than peers with working parents. Combined with the positive associations between parental education, family cohesion, family income, and educational outcomes, this underscores the importance of parents for adolescent educational outcomes, and suggests that parents and the family situation should be considered when providing academic support for adolescents who struggle in upper secondary school.PMID:38380510 | DOI:10.1177/14034948241228163 (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Public Health)

Workplace sexual and gender-based harassment in Denmark: a comparison of the self-labelling and behavioural list method
CONCLUSIONS: The behavioural list method yielded a higher prevalence of sexual and gender-based harassment compared with the self-labelling method. Self-labelling and reporting at least one type of sexual and gender-based harassment was associated with depressive symptoms.PMID:38372071 | DOI:10.1177/14034948241228158 (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Public Health)

Trust matters: The Addressing Vaccine Hesitancy in Europe Study
This article presents the design of a seven-country study focusing on childhood vaccines, Addressing Vaccine Hesitancy in Europe (VAX-TRUST), developed during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study consists of (a) situation analysis of vaccine hesitancy (examination of individual, socio-demographic and macro-level factors of vaccine hesitancy and analysis of media coverage on vaccines and vaccination and (b) participant observation and in-depth interviews of healthcare professionals and vaccine-hesitant parents. These analyses were used to design interventions aimed at increasing awareness on the complexity of vaccine hesitancy ...

Relationship between smoking and mental health in educational settings with high smoking rates: a cohort study among Danish youth
CONCLUSIONS: Our study suggested that students in PBE schools constitute a more vulnerable group in terms of smoking and mental health compared with students in VET schools. Validation of the short version of Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire for adolescents in Norway
CONCLUSIONS: Results suggest that the CERQ-short can be used to measure cognitive emotion regulation strategies in the Norwegian adolescent population. The validation of the CERQ-short in Norway could significantly improve mental health care by facilitating better diagnosis, treatment planning, and evaluation, as well as informing public health policy and cross-cultural research.PMID:38303505 | DOI:10.1177/14034948231225616 (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Public Health)

What is wellness? Investigating the importance of different domains of wellness among laypeople and experts: A survey study
CONCLUSIONS: To ensure the relevance of wellness models, it is vital to understand the areas that laypeople consider to be important for their comprehensive wellness. This study offers 13 domains that could be combined with an expert view on wellness and used as a starting point for creating a more comprehensive, inclusive and better-suited wellness instrument.PMID:38217305 | DOI:10.1177/14034948231217360 (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Public Health)

Mental health problems among adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic: a repeated cross-sectional study from Sweden
CONCLUSIONS: Compared with boys, adolescent girls self-reported worse mental health following COVID-19 exposure. Girls may have been more affected by social distancing regulations in Sweden during the pandemic than boys and may require additional psychosocial support post-pandemic. Social support from parents may play an important role.PMID:38217316 | DOI:10.1177/14034948231219832 (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Public Health)
