The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on mental health in Danish school children in 5th to 7th grade
CONCLUSIONS: This study indicates that the Covid-19 pandemic impacted Danish school children differently across sex and grade (age). During Covid-19, mental health tended to be better among the oldest girls and worse among the youngest girls compared with girls before Covid-19. Boys in 6th grade had poorer mental well-being, and boys in 5th grade had fewer conduct problems during Covid-19 compared with before Covid-19.PMID:38380520 | DOI:10.1177/14034948241228907 (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Public Health)

Workplace sexual and gender-based harassment in Denmark: a comparison of the self-labelling and behavioural list method
CONCLUSIONS: The behavioural list method yielded a higher prevalence of sexual and gender-based harassment compared with the self-labelling method. Self-labelling and reporting at least one type of sexual and gender-based harassment was associated with depressive symptoms.PMID:38372071 | DOI:10.1177/14034948241228158 (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Public Health)

Trust matters: The Addressing Vaccine Hesitancy in Europe Study
This article presents the design of a seven-country study focusing on childhood vaccines, Addressing Vaccine Hesitancy in Europe (VAX-TRUST), developed during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study consists of (a) situation analysis of vaccine hesitancy (examination of individual, socio-demographic and macro-level factors of vaccine hesitancy and analysis of media coverage on vaccines and vaccination and (b) participant observation and in-depth interviews of healthcare professionals and vaccine-hesitant parents. These analyses were used to design interventions aimed at increasing awareness on the complexity of vaccine hesitancy ...

Relationship between smoking and mental health in educational settings with high smoking rates: a cohort study among Danish youth
CONCLUSIONS: Our study suggested that students in PBE schools constitute a more vulnerable group in terms of smoking and mental health compared with students in VET schools. Smoking seemed to prevent loneliness in school but was associated with heightened stress levels.PMID:38342989 | DOI:10.1177/14034948241227305 (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Public Health)

The Danish Health Survey among Marginalized People: Study design and respondent characteristics
CONCLUSIONS: Conducting surveys among marginalized people entails methodological challenges and ethical considerations. However, continually attempting to reach marginalized people in surveys by tailoring data collection strategies to their specific life situation is essential to gain insight into their health and well-being.PMID:38326783 | DOI:10.1177/14034948231224239 (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Public Health)

Validation of the short version of Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire for adolescents in Norway
CONCLUSIONS: Results suggest that the CERQ-short can be used to measure cognitive emotion regulation strategies in the Norwegian adolescent population. The validation of the CERQ-short in Norway could significantly improve mental health care by facilitating better diagnosis, treatment planning, and evaluation, as well as informing public health policy and cross-cultural research.PMID:38303505 | DOI:10.1177/14034948231225616 (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Public Health)

What is wellness? Investigating the importance of different domains of wellness among laypeople and experts: A survey study
CONCLUSIONS: To ensure the relevance of wellness models, it is vital to understand the areas that laypeople consider to be important for their comprehensive wellness. This study offers 13 domains that could be combined with an expert view on wellness and used as a starting point for creating a more comprehensive, inclusive and better-suited wellness instrument.PMID:38217305 | DOI:10.1177/14034948231217360 (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Public Health)

Mental health problems among adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic: a repeated cross-sectional study from Sweden
CONCLUSIONS: Compared with boys, adolescent girls self-reported worse mental health following COVID-19 exposure. Girls may have been more affected by social distancing regulations in Sweden during the pandemic than boys and may require additional psychosocial support post-pandemic. Social support from parents may play an important role.PMID:38217316 | DOI:10.1177/14034948231219832 (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Public Health)

Meaningfulness and mortality: exploring the sense of coherence in Eastern Finnish men
CONCLUSIONS: The sense of coherence component related to meaningfulness, including its first item, 'Caring about what goes on around you', plays a significant role in the association with mortality among middle-aged men in Eastern Finland. This item should be considered a noteworthy patient-reported variable when predicting mortality in public health settings.PMID:38205561 | DOI:10.1177/14034948231220091 (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Public Health)

Swedish women reaching post-traumatic growth after an intimate partner violence relationship: A study of formal help and growth after trauma
CONCLUSIONS: The majority of the Swedish women in this study who had lived in an IPV relationship attained PTG. Although formal help appeared to help the women attain PTG, the type of the formal help did not seem to have a crucial role in attaining different levels of PTG. These findings are discussed in the light of the future research directions and public health measures to better support women who experience IPV.PMID:38186090 | DOI:10.1177/14034948231222366 (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Public Health)
