Role of SFGSI, microbial culture and qSOFA as predictive factors in determining the survival rate in Fournier Gangrene patient
CONCLUSION: The survival rate of FG patients can be predicted using the sensitivity and specificity of the SFGSI and qSOFA scores together. P. Aeruginosa-infected patients have the greatest mortality rate (100%) compared to the other groups.PMID:38438215 | DOI:10.15537/smj.2024.45.3.20230036 (Source: Saudi Medical Journal)

Determining the predictors associated with the difficulty of adaptation to ageing of hospitalized older adults. < em > Difficulty of older adult to aging < /em >
CONCLUSION: The findings revealed that using walking aids, being single, pain, fear of falling, and anxiety affect adaptation difficulties to aging. Anxiety was found to have an effect on all sub-dimensions of adaptation difficulty to aging. There is a need for further studies to determine the correlation between anxiety and the adaptation difficulties experienced by older adults.PMID:38438217 | DOI:10.15537/smj.2024.45.3.20230267 (Source: Saudi Medical Journal)

Comparison of the popliteal artery and the capsule of the posterior knee (IPACK) block and the genicular nerve block in primary total knee arthroplasty: A prospective randomized trial
CONCLUSION: Both GNB and IPACK blocks had a significant positive impact on postoperative pain scores within the initial 24 hours following total knee arthroplasty (TKA). In comparison with IPACK, GNB had lower opioid consumption in the early postoperative period while also promoting better mobilization.PMID:38438218 | DOI:10.15537/smj.2024.45.3.20230432 (Source: Saudi Medical Journal)

Primary pancreatic lymphoma: Histopathological pattern of 8 cases
CONCLUSION: Primary pancreatic lymphoma is a very rare tumor without specific clinical, laboratory tests, or radiological findings. Abdominal pain is the most common clinical presentation. Diffuse large b-cell lymphoma is the most common pathological subtype. Primary pancreatic lymphoma should be taken into consideration when evaluating pancreatic mass to avoid unnecessary surgical resection.PMID:38438200 | DOI:10.15537/smj.2024.45.3.20230930 (Source: Saudi Medical Journal)

Immunomodulatory effects of BAFF and APRIL cytokines in post-pulmonary infection lung cancer: Implications for drug resistance and progression
Saudi Med J. 2024 Mar;45(3):223-229. doi: 10.15537/smj.2024.45.3.20230873.ABSTRACTLung cancer is a complicated and challenging disease and is one of the most common causes of cancer-related mortality worldwide. Within the lung microenvironment, specific cytokines, including the B cell activation factor (BAFF) and the A proliferation-inducing ligand (APRIL), are produce by various cells, notably airway epithelial cells, in response allergic inflammation or pulmonary infection. These cytokines play a critical role in maintaining local immune responses and fostering the survival of immune cells. The BAFF and APRIL system have...

Comparison of bacteremic pneumonia caused by < em > Escherichia coli < /em > and < em > Klebsiella pneumoniae < /em > : A retrospective study
CONCLUSION: Patients diagnosed with KP-BP exhibited a similar prognosis as those diagnosed with E. coli-BP. For patients with KP-BP, the risk of mortality was significantly higher for those who were in the intensive care unit, were infected with carbapenem-resistant strains, or had a high sequential organ failure assessment score. In patients with E. coli-BP, the Pitt bacteremia score was strongly associated with the 30-day mortality rate.PMID:38438206 | DOI:10.15537/smj.2024.45.3.20230428 (Source: Saudi Medical Journal)
