Clinical education models in rural practice settings: A scoping review
CONCLUSION: These findings suggest there exists great variability in rural clinical learning opportunities for nursing students. Academic practice partnerships could continue to be leveraged to provide learners with rural clinical education that meets the needs of both the educational institution as well as the rural communities in which learning takes place. An area of further research would be to focus on formal evaluation of the effectiveness of clinical education models in the rural context.PMID:38310708 | DOI:10.1016/j.nepr.2024.103906 (Source: Rural Remote Health)

Population structure of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in El Oro: A first insight into Ecuador-Peru tuberculosis transmission
CONCLUSIONS: These results may suggest that TB dynamics in this rural and semi-urban area would not be linked to highly transmitted strains like MTBC L2-Beijing from Peru, but related to TB relapse; although further studies with larger MTBC cultures collection from recent years are needed. Nevertheless, we recommend to reinforce TB surveillance programs in remote rural settings and border regions in Ecuador.PMID:38310744 | DOI:10.1016/j.jiph.2024.01.015 (Source: Rural Remote Health)

Health System Encounters after Loss to Cardiology Follow-up among Patients with Congenital Heart Disease
CONCLUSIONS: Patients with CHD are frequently lost to cardiology follow-up. Our study supports collaboration across specialties and between cardiology clinics and affiliated EDs to identify patients with CHD who have been lost to cardiology follow-up but remain within the health system. A combination of in-person and remote outreach to these patients may help them continue cardiology care.PMID:38311237 | DOI:10.1016/j.jpeds.2024.113931 (Source: Rural Remote Health)

Feasibility and acceptability of a contextualized physical activity and diet intervention for the control of hypertension in adults from a rural subdistrict: a study protocol (HYPHEN)
This study aims to evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of HYPHEN in a rural community setting.METHODS: We aim to recruit 30 adult participants with a self-report hypertension diagnosis. A one-arm, prospective design will be used to assess the feasibility and acceptability of recruitment, uptake, engagement, and completion of the 10-week intervention. Recruitment rates will be assessed at week 0. Intervention uptake, engagement, and adherence to the intervention will be assessed weekly via telephone. Blood pressure, body mass index, waist-hip ratio, urinary sodium, accelerometer-measured physical activity, and 24-h d...

Optimizing the medical equipment investment in primary care centres in rural China: evidence from a panel threshold model
CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated the spatially heterogeneous effect of medical equipment investment in the primary care centres in rural China. The priority of the equipment investment was suggested to be given to the township health centres in the remote towns with a low urbanization degree and those in the highly-urbanized neighbouring towns of the county seats.PMID:38302957 | PMC:PMC10835967 | DOI:10.1186/s12913-024-10596-x (Source: Rural Remote Health)
