Predictive factors of involuntary weight loss in patients with smell and taste disorders
CONCLUSION: Factors associated with weight loss were self-reported changes in flavor perception, parosmia, duration of symptoms for less than two years, head injury, and psychophysically measured low Taste Strips score. These data help to identify patients at risk of weight loss from smell or taste impairment.PMID:37943027 | DOI:10.4193/Rhin23.222 (Source: Rhinology)

Association of gustatory dysfunction and Alzheimer's disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Based on these studies, gustatory dysfunction diagnosed by gustatory function testing was closely related to AD. However, the results of subjective questionnaires were not significantly different between patients with AD and healthy controls in the current meta-analysis. As the number of studies and enrolled subjects was limited and unified gustatory function testing was lacking, further studies are needed to confirm this relationship.PMID:37943054 | DOI:10.4193/Rhin23.235 (Source: Rhinology)

Biases related to periostin levels in chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis: a systematic review
CONCLUSIONS: The relevant literature is extremely limited and little is actually known about the intrinsic or extrinsic factors affecting periostin measurements. The synthesis of the existing literature should be done with cautiousness.PMID:37905726 | DOI:10.4193/Rhin23.220 (Source: Rhinology)

Role of serum eosinophil cationic protein in distinct endotypes of chronic rhinosinusitis
CONCLUSIONS: Serum ECP levels appear to be a feasible predictor of postoperative uncontrolled disease in patients with T2 CRS as preoperative serum ECP levels >17.0 μg/L in these patients have an approximately 16.7-fold increased risk of postoperative uncontrolled disease and should be closely monitored.PMID:37865935 | DOI:10.4193/Rhin23.170 (Source: Rhinology)
