[Therapeutic adherence in asthma in France: A general review].
CONCLUSION: The present review highlights the sustainability of adherence-related issues in asthma and the need to improve patients' knowledge on asthma and the finality of therapy. It also highlights the need of an improved communication between patients and physicians is also advocated. Further studies with more recent data are desirable to assess changes in disease management of asthma and the impact of potential future corrective interventions. [The interactions between microorganisms and the small airways. A paediatric focus].
Authors: de Blic J, Brouard J, Vabret A, Deschildre A Abstract The spectrum of respiratory viruses is expanding and emerging diseases have been described regularly over the last fifteen years. The origin of these emerging respiratory viruses may be zoonotic (by crossing species barrier, after changes to RNA viruses such as avian influenza virus type A or coronaviruses), or related to the use of new identification techniques (metapneumovirus, bocavirus). The relationship between bronchiolitis and asthma is now better understood thanks to prospective follow up of birth cohorts. The role of rhinovirus has become predo...

Practical guidelines on e-cigarettes for practitioners and others health professionals. A French 2016 expert's statement.
Authors: Dautzenberg B, Adler M, Garelik D, Loubrieu JF, Mathern G, Peiffer G, Perriot J, Rouquet RM, Schmitt A, Underner M, Urban T Abstract A group of 11 French medical experts has developed guidelines through a Delphi progressive consensus about smoking management at the e-cigarette era. The lack of scientific data about e-cigarettes led the experts to set out recommendations, mainly based on clinical practice while waiting for scientific validations. The validated smoking cessation treatments keep the first place in the prevention and the treatment of tobacco-induced damages. The e-cigarette, experimented by a ...

[Use of the Xpert( ®) MTB/RIF test in routine screening of new cases of pulmonary tuberculosis in an endemic area].
The objective of the study was to determine the contribution of the Xpert(®) MTB/RIF test for routine pulmonary tuberculosis diagnosis in an endemic area. METHODOLOGY: We undertook a prospective study among patients presenting with cough and sputum. The sputum was submitted to microscopic examination, to the Xpert(®) MTB/RIF test and cultured by the Mycobacteria growth indicator tube (MGIT) technique. The study compared cases of pulmonary tuberculosis confirmed by a positive sputum culture and cases with cough but negative sputum culture. RESULTS: In multivariate analysis, the factors associated with positi...

[Interest of crizotinib in a lung cancer patient with de novo amplification of MET].
Authors: Rabeau A, Rouquette I, Vantelon JM, Taranchon-Clermont E, Mazières J Abstract Targeted therapy in lung cancer changes the prognostic and treatment of patients. MET is an oncogene including exon 14 mutations and gene amplification associated with worse prognosis. We here report the case of a 47-year-old former smoker, woman, with a stage IV lung adenocarcinoma with multiple chemotherapy failure. A MET amplification was identified and the patient consequently received crizotinib. A major response was observed after eight weeks of treatment. MET amplification screening appears to be interesting wi...
