[The liquid biopsies: What is their contribution to the management of cancer?]
Authors: Wechsler J Abstract The « liquid biopsies » are samples of liquids such as blood, urine, spinal fluid that can contain tumor material. Clinical assays have been mainly focused on the peripheral blood containing circulating tumor cells and circulating tumor DNA. The circulating tumor cells are cancer cells released from the primary tumor or recurrences or metastases. They enter into the bloodstream after passing through the vessel wall. It is possible to analyze the circulating tumor cells by means of all cytologic and biomolecular techniques. The free circulating tumor DNA is made of ...

[Postural tachycardia syndrome (PoTS): An up-to-date].
Authors: Astudillo L, Laure A, Fabry V, Pugnet G, Maury P, Labrunée M, Sailler L, Pavy-Le Traon A Abstract Postural tachycardia syndrome (PoTS) is a multifactorial syndrome defined by an increase in heart rate ≥30bpm, within 10minutes of standing (or during a head up tilt test to at least 60°), in absence of orthostatic hypotension. It is associated with symptoms of cerebral hypoperfusion that are worse when upright and improve in supine position. Patients have an intense fatigue with a high incidence on quality of life. This syndrome can be explained by many pathophysiological mechanisms. It can be a...

[Non-infective endocarditis].
Authors: Le Bot A, Jégo P, Donal E, Flécher E, Revest M, Tattevin P Abstract Non-infective endocarditis, also referred to as non-bacterial thrombotic endocarditis, represent a wide range of rare pathologies, often severe. This review gathered the data available in the literature, to decipher the major information collected on the pathophysiology, the diagnosis and the treatment of these heterogeneous diseases, often misdiagnosed. Characteristics of non-infective endocarditis are similar to infective endocarditis in terms of valvular lesions (mostly left-sided, with regurgitations and vegetations), and...

[Ocular tuberculosis].
Authors: Trad S, Saadoun D, Errera MH, Abad S, Bielefeld P, Terrada C, Sène D, Bodaghi B, Sève P Abstract Despite extensive investigations, including the use of Interferon-gamma release assays (IGRA), the diagnosis of intraocular tuberculosis (TB) remains challenging. Ocular evidence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in low endemic countries for TB is extremely rare, leading mostly to a TB-related ocular inflammation presumptive diagnosis. This present work aims: to highlights the main clinical patterns suggestive of ocular TB; and the latest recommended guidelines for diagnosing ocular TB to clarify inte...

[Glass ceiling for women in academic medicine in France].
CONCLUSION: The glass ceiling exists in one of the largest French hospital group. Career development principles promote merit, but should decrease the benefit of "masculine" attitudes in the competition for academic positions. Academic selection criteria should evolve to limit the disadvantage of women related to deeper familial involvement and less competitive strategies and risk-taking attitudes. [New therapeutic strategies in non-Hodgkin lymphomas and Hodgkin lymphoma].
Authors: Rossi C, Bastie JN Abstract In this review, we report the main advances of the last years in the four most common lymphomas in France, namely Hodgkin lymphoma, large cell diffuse B lymphoma, follicular lymphoma and mantle cell lymphoma. We have identified consensual practices in first line in France and then distinguished the targeting by new molecules. Thus, we wanted to highlight the problems for each of these four lymphomas and understand the tools used to find solutions. Finally, this review makes it possible to understand to what extent the new molecules (targeted therapies, immunotherapy) make it pos...

It is transmitted to humans by flea bite, contact with rodents or inhalation of infected droplets. There are three clinical forms: bubonic plague, pulmonary plague and septicemic plague. The usual presentation is a flu-like syndrome possibly accompanied by an inflammatory lymphadenopathy which appears after 1 to 7days of incubation. Bubonic plague has a case fatality rate of about 50% while other forms of ...

Several classifications tried to draw a distinction across the different entities. Recent advances in molecular biology have contributed to the update of their nosology. Syndromic vascular malformations are an example: while Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome, Proteus or CLOVES syndrome share many common features, understanding of pathological mechanism and specially the role of the PIK3/AKT/mTOR pathway enables us to rethink their classification. The main pathophysiological hypothesis is the reactivation of HSV 1 virus in the geniculate ganglia, leading to nerve edema and its compression through the petrosal bone.
