She felt tired for 1 month with no other significant discomfort. The hemoglobin (Hb) is 66g/L, and the red blood cell (RBC) count was 3.24*10^12/L in routine blood tests at admission. Abdominal computed tomography (CT) images showed submucosal tumor (SMT) in the descending colon. The abdominal computed tomography (CT) images showed submucosal tumor (SMT) in the descending colon. Symptomatic polycystic liver disease: a rare indication of hepatectomy
We present the case of forty-four-year-old woman with autosomal dominant Polycystic liver disease (PLD) without kidney disease diagnosed for 18 years ago. She experienced progressive abdominal distension and malnutrition over the previous twelve months. The patient had no other comorbidities. Physical examination revealed an 8 cm hepatomegaly in the right hypochondrium region. Liver function analysis was normal. CT scan showed multiple liver cysts with smooth and regular walls, predominantly in the right lobe which was considered as type III according to Gigot´s classification. Due to the significant hepatomegaly, convent...

A long rectal foreign body successfully removed after colonoscopy
Discussion: Rectal foreign bodies, whose size and shape are variable and sometimes aberrant, are often self-inserted for self-gratification by adults, and its incidence is increasing. Patients typically avoid immediate medical attention and seek help only when complications arise. Formal clinical guidelines are lacking, and this case illustrates the importance of clinical judgement in the management of rectal foreign bodies, whether endoscopic or surgical.PMID:38345475 | DOI:10.17235/reed.2024.10251/2024 (Source: Revista Espanola de Enfermedades Digestivas)

Transverse colon volvulus in a young patient with wandering liver
We present the case of a 26-year-old male patient with no history of interest who consulted the emergency department due to occlusive symptoms. Urgent CT showed the presence of a transverse colonic volvulus in the context of a heterotopic liver, located in the left hypochondrium. There were no clinical or radiological signs of perforation or ischemia, so urgent endoscopic decompression was performed with subsequent elective surgery with a favorable resolution of the condition. Transverse colonic volvulus is rare (<1%) and wandering liver is an exceptional predisposing factor, with less than a hundred published cases. In...

Laboratory tests revealed leukocytosis and elevated lipase (4129 UI/l), with normal liver function, so he was admitted for its first episode of acute pancreatitis. Abdominal ultrasound showed liver steatosis, without cholelithiasis or bile duct dilatation. A thoraco-abdominal computed tomography was performed, revealing a pedunculated gastric polyp in lesser curvature measuring 64x38mm with no evidence of metast...

Diagnostic value of ascites immunohistochemistry in carcinomatosis of unknown origin
We present the case of a patient diagnosed with carcinomatosis when admitted urgently for an occlusive condition. It is the immunohistochemistry that clarifies which is the primary tumor. Sigma neoplasia was initially suspected to recur due to operative findings. It was surprising that the primary tumor was of pulmonary origin. It became known thanks to the immunohistochemical cytology of the ascetic fluid.PMID:38345502 | DOI:10.17235/reed.2024.10256/2024 (Source: Revista Espanola de Enfermedades Digestivas)
