Impact of a Pharmacy-Led Medication History Program In the Emergency Center of an Academic Hospital

Health care resource utilization and economic burden in multiple sclerosis patients
Introduction: Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, inflammatory disease of the central nervous system associated with significant physical limitations and neurologic deficits. However, information regarding resource utilization and expenditure among MS patients, specifically after the introduction of oral MS agents is limited. Increasing medication adherence in older adults who self-neglect: a safety protocol
Objectives: Older community-dwelling self-neglecters often live with multiple comorbid chronic conditions requiring long-term management with medications. Medication non-adherence in this population is high placing them at increased risk for medication non-adherence related outcomes, including mortality. As part of a federally funded RO1 aiming to increase medication adherence in older community-dwelling self-neglecters, this study describes: 1) risks identified by a research team, associated with simply increasing medication adherence in this population and 2) the comprehensive safety strategy designed to minimize these r...

Medication adherence and personal determinants of health among self-neglecting older adults
Objective: Older adults who suffer from self-neglect are a growing population that is at great risk of adverse outcomes. Medication nonadherence is a large component of inadequate healthcare for self-neglecting older adults. While there is acknowledgement of this populations lack of having their healthcare needs met, understanding the reasons contributing to their gap in adequate care is largely unexplored, especially reasons related to personal determinants of health. We hypothesized that low medication adherence would be consistent with a declined health-related skill set and understanding of their health care needs. (So...

Antiretroviral therapy and virologic response among hiv-infected persons: Role of 100% art adherence, depression, side effects, and drug resistance
Introduction: Adherence to antiretroviral medication is needed to maintain therapeutic drug levels, reduce the risk of drug resistance and ensure virologic suppression. Similarly, medication side effects are considered a significant barrier to high ART adherence. (Source: Research in Social and Administrative Pharmacy)

Views of parents regarding human papillomavirus vaccination: A systematic review and meta-ethnographic synthesis of qualitative literature
Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common viral infection of the reproductive tract. Three prophylactic HPV vaccines are available for the prevention of HPV-related disease. Despite clinical success, immunisation rates remain sub-optimal. The purpose of this systematic review is to synthesise qualitative literature to achieve an understanding of the drivers and barriers to HPV vaccine acceptability and to determine targets for an intervention to improve vaccine uptake. Immediate or deferred adjustment of drug regimens in multidose drug dispensing systems
Multidose drug dispensing (MDD) is used to help patients take their medicines appropriately. Little is known about drug regimen changes within these MDD systems and how they are effectuated by the community pharmacist. Manual immediate adjustments of the MDD system could introduce dispensing errors. MDD guidelines therefore recommend to effectuate drug regimen changes at the start of a new MDD system.
