Characteristics of patients using specialty medications
Specialty medications include innovative drugs and biologic agents requiring special handling and close monitoring. Although specialty medications have been widely used for various chronic conditions, increased use of these medications has contributed a growing share of total health care expenditures. Role-emerging placements (REPs) – An evolving alternative for student pharmacist experiential education
With growing student cohort sizes and workplace pressures, sustainability of arranging experiential placements in pharmacy professional settings and ensuring quality of experiences has become increasingly difficult for placement coordinators. It is no wonder that there are demands for some pharmacy schools to search for alternatives to traditionally established experiential placement opportunities for students. Role-emerging placements (REPs) are evolving as such an alternative. (Source: Research in Social and Administrative Pharmacy)

Project Octo-Pills - A practice model engaging community pharmacists in the care of patients from a tertiary hospital
Even while pharmacy practice evolves to a more patient-centric mode of practice, local hospitals, due to high patient load as well as space and resource constraints, find it challenging to conduct thorough medication review and physical medication reconciliation for all patients. In light of this, optimizing the local current healthcare system to involve community pharmacists in the care of patients from public hospitals could potentially better cater to the healthcare needs of the older population. Are advanced practice pharmacist designations really advanced?
Four states have created advanced practice pharmacist designations in state law: advanced practice pharmacist (California), clinical pharmacist practitioner (Montana and North Carolina), and pharmacist clinician (New Mexico). To attain an advanced pharmacist designation, states typically require a fee and set a minimum education requirement either through continuing pharmacy education (CPE) or through attainment of a national certification or completion of a residency. Once attained, pharmacists may practice with additional scope of practice authorities, namely the ability to order and interpret drug therapy-related tests,...

A multilevel stakeholder approach for identifying the determinants of implementation of government-funded community pharmacy services at the primary care level
A key early step to enhance the integration of community pharmacy services (CPSs) into primary care practice is identifying key determinants of practice (i.e., critical circumstances that influence the implementation of such services). Involving relevant stakeholders in identifying key determinants enables findings to be more relevant to the context in which CPSs will be implemented. Use of a national database as a tool to identify primary medication non-adherence: The Estonian ePrescription system
Medication adherence can be divided into primary and secondary adherence. Primary medication non-adherence (PMN) occurs when a patient does not obtain medicine with their initial prescription. Secondary non-adherence measures prescription refills among patients who previously filled their first prescription. While secondary non-adherence has been studied thoroughly, PMN has been assessed less extensively, due to lack of available data. Estonian ePrescription system might prove a valuable tool for this.
